Q. My wife is a Green Bay Packers (okay, Brett Favre) lover and I am looking to plan a trip to a game for our anniversary in October. Are there companies the put together packages for such an event?
A. Packer Fan Tours (800-851-7225) offers a variety of packages for fans, with tickets to either home or away games. The company - based in Green Bay, WI - has been around since 1986, and claims to be the only "Official Tour Company of the Green Bay Packers since 1993." Most of their packages include Hall of Fame admissions. There are four land-only packages to choose from: the basic Rookie Tour Package starts at $299 per person, double occupancy for the October 29 game against the Arizona Cardinals (if you'd rather see them play the St. Louis Rams on October 8, the price is $319) and includes an end-zone game ticket (upgradeable to sideline or club seats), one-night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Appleton, WI and hotel/stadium transfers on game day. The most expensive package, the MVP Tour, costs $639 for a game against the Cardinals and $669 against the Rams, and includes and end-zone tickets, two nights at the Tundra Lodge Resort & Waterpark (877-886-3725), hotel/stadium transfers, tailgate party three hours before kick-off with unlimited food and beverage, souvenirs, Hall of Fame admission, Packer player photo and autograph session (fans are guaranteed at least one starting lineup player) and more. The company does have a travel department that can help with airfare if need be.
There are other companies that offer similar packages such as Premier Sports Travel (800-924-9993), a company that specializes in tour packages for a wide variety of sporting events. Their package for the October games includes two nights accommodation at Residence Inn Appleton and an end-zone ticket, starting at $365 per person, double occupancy against the Cardinals or $375 against the Rams.
Q. I'm planning a vacation to Ireland with my family. We would like a personal guided tour, and all that I can find are group tours. Do you have any recommendations?
A. There's a company that's just for you: Sceptre Tours (800-221-0924) offers travelers the ability to include the services of a professional chauffeur in their vacations to the Emerald Isle. Founded in 1981, Sceptre Tours is family owned and operated, and specializes in independent travel to the Emerald Isle. All you have to do is choose your accommodations from over 2,500 budget-oriented bed & breakfasts to five-star hotels, and just sit back and relax. For example, Sceptre has a six-night " Ireland Chauffeur Vacation ," with accommodations in four- and five-star properties including Dromoland Castle, Killarney Plaza Hotel, Faithlegg Manor House, and the Davenport Hotel. The tour will be personalized and a professional driver will be provided for five days to show travelers around and includes full Irish breakfast daily. The tour starts at $1,349 per person, based on four people traveling in April with double occupancy accommodations. To book or customize your vacation, call the above number or visit their Web site.
Q. I would love to plan a trip to Ireland taking my 64 year old mother and five year old daughter. The problem that often presents itself is that many of the tour coaches abroad do not allow children under the age of 8 years old. Do you know of any tours that would be friendly for this wide a range of travelers? We are apprehensive about booking a self tour as we are completely unfamiliar with the country and do not wish to rent a car and drive ourselves. Any ideas?
A. I managed to find a few tour companies where the minimum age for children is five years old: Lynott Tours (800/221-2474; only on certain tours, call to check); Trafalgar Tours (866/544-4434); Insight Vacations and Collette Vacations (800/340-5158). If none of the companies above offer a tour of your liking, try searching the United States Tour Operators Association or the American Society of Travel Agents for family oriented vacations.
Q. I am a single professional woman, mid 50's looking for a travel group or association that offers travel activities for singles. Any recommendations?
A. You have two options: the first is a women-only tour operator. There are numerous companies to check out: AdventureWomen (multi-activities both domestic and international; 800/804-8686); Adventures in Good Company (active vacations both domestic and international; 877/439-4042); Call of the Wild (adventures in the western US, Mexico, New Zealand and Peru; 888/378-1978); Mariah Wilderness Expeditions (rafting and multi-sport in US, Mexico, Costa Rica, Fiji, Belize and more; 800/462-7424); Soul Trekking (wilderness adventures in the Canadian Rockies; firstname.lastname@example.org); Unleashed Adventures (adventure and cultural travel to places like Easter Island, Fiji, and Kenya; 914-967-6941); Woman Tours (inn-to-inn road bike tours across the US, Europe, Africa and Asia; 800/247-1444); and Women's Wilderness Institute (wilderness experiences for women and teen girls in the Rocky Mountains and the deserts of the Southwest; 303-938-919).
The other option is companies that offer travel vacations for the single traveler. Calig Travel (800/806-6444) offers cruises for older single travelers. DeNure Travel (800/668-6859) offers holidays for mature travelers throughout Canada, the United States, Britain and Europe, and has a registry for you to sign up where they'll match you with another single traveler based on your choices.
