We were scheduled to fly out of Seattle on Thursday morning. When we got to the gate there was a sign saying "We need volunteers!" We asked the person checking us in what they would offer if we volunteered. "They've been offering 3 tickets!" she replied. Thinking that she meant 3 tickets for the two of us, we agreed. The flight needed 6 volunteers, however, so they ended up offering all of us 4 tickets each! We knew that was VERY generous, but weren't about to complain. All 6 of us were talking about it so it's not as if we misunderstood. When we got home and tried to use the first voucher, we were told that we each only had 2! We have called the Air Tran customer service number and they told us there was NO record of that and that they never give more than 2 vouchers. Had we only been offered 2 we would have still volunteered to be bumped, but it makes us very angry to feel we were deceived. I have no complaints whatsoever about the flight and everyone we dealt with at the airport was courteous - it's just the fact that they misled us.

The last time I flew with AirTran they advertised FREE WI-FI DURING YOUR FLIGHT. They still have Wi-Fi, which is awesome, but now they charge $12.95 per flight to use it. :( They went around 3 times for drinks which is awesome for only a 3.5 hour flight. I was impressed with that. Seats are average, small and kind of uncomfortable like most flights.

I checked in online with carry on luggage but when I got to the gate both times the flight was "sold out" so they were asking people to check their luggage for FREE; this seemed to be the norm as everyone seem to come with luggage in hand ready to walk up to the desk and check it in for FREE AT THE GATE routine. Seat-wise: Take the window seats as they have the most wiggle room and under-the-seat storage. The aisle seats under-the-seat storage area might fit a small handbag or pack but not a full-size anything as about 1/2 the area is taken up with the emergency aisle strip lights on the otherside of the seat frame bolted to the floor. If you put the tray down you could not really move especially if the person in front of you was reclining and if the seat in front of you reclined further than allowed due to being broken (a few were) you could not even put the tray fully down. The in-flight "service" consided of a bag of pretzels or cheese chip and plastic cup of "beverage"; water in my case as I don't drink pop or fruity drinks. All the airline staff seemed pleasant and very nice. They seemed well-trained and knew what they were doing. I took the red-eye from SEA to MKE but got very little sleep even with my jacket over my head as I was so cramped and it was cold in the plane (it felt like the AC was on full blast). Coming back (MKE to SEA) I took the evening flight and read, which was doable and the plane's AC was more normal. For the price ($269) of the round trip (3.5 & 4.25 hrs, respectively) it wasn't bad. I would fly AirTran again but it looks like Southwest is buying them out, so I would check my luggage for free to have nothing under the seat. And may even pay for earlier boarding to snag a better seat (exit window).

Crew was exceptionally polite, courteous and helpful. Flight was on time! Plane was full. Smooth ride. Very comfortable. Will definitely consider Air Trans in the future. Affordable.

If the airline industry, including AirTran, didn't feel the need to suck even more money out of their passenger's in the form of baggage fees, there wouldn't be the scramble to overhead storage space. On my flight back from Milwaukee, one of the attendants repeated no less than 12 times her spiel about not putting "smaller" items in the overheads. I happen to be 6'4" and were she to tell me to put my backpack under the seat ahead of me, there would have been a problem. There were many children on the plane and none of their parents were asked to put their children's precious little carry-ons under the seat in front where there was more than enough room since the kids can't even put their feet on the floor! The general public has come to hate flying because there is not sense to the mess the airlines, including AirTran, have created for themselves.

Overall experience was OK. However, the size of the seats and the space between seats row to row is VERY limited.
