“Not lay flat beds as advertised!”

I had used miles for a first class trip from Portland OR to Madrid Spain. First leg of United flight was fine, but when connecting in WA DC, code share flight with Air Lingus. I booked First due to the adverstised "lay flat beds". When extended, these "beds" tilt downward at such an angle I felt like I was continuously slipping down to the floor, and continuously had to scoot up to stay on the bed. Not at all comfortable. Service and food were great, but not at all worth the price as it's impossible to sleep while slipping down anyway.

“avoid economy exit row aisle seat”

I paid extra for an exit row aisle seat and did not realize there would be no storage in front of me nor under my chair. I had asked the check-in gate attendant if there was a storage pouch attached to the wall in front of me, because I had the option to change seats, and she said yes. Unfortunately she was wrong and because the economy seats on the long haul from Seattle to London are now impossibly small, I was unable to manuver whenever my tray table was open. Something dropped off my dinner tray as it was handed to me and I could not manuver to pick it up. The airline steward who actually caused the item to drop by bumping me with the cart and saw what had happened, politely ignored me. While this is a small example, in my experience it is indicitive of the overall treatment in economy on this airline as of late. There is a real class system on British airways in terms of how you are treated by the staff. I have been flying with them for over a decade and have become increasingly aware of this the past couple of years. The above experience is not an isolated incident and I have flown in higher class fares and can compare the different treatment. My recommendation is to save for an upgraded seat, it will make the long haul flights more enjoyable. Interestingly, I have not noticed this type of treatment on domestic British Airways flights within Europe.

Overall flying time from San Fran to London was approximately 10 hours ... rather long for someone who is 6' 3", but on the whole not bad ... especially for economy class. Would probably upgrade to business class on next trip to Europe as more leg room is provided.

My wife and I flew to LHR from SEA on 6 September on BA. I took advantage of a cheap upgrade to Premium Economy (World Traveller Plus) and boy, what a waste of money. The service was bad (the attendant for our cabin was downright surly), the on-demand entertainment system failed with no obvious attempt to fix it (it went into a useless manual cycle mode), the food was no better that Economy and the seats were only marginally better. Overall, a waste of money!!

Bracing for the worst, it was good to have a flight with no drama or unexpected surprises. Decent meal, but not enough leg room. We would have landed early except for the 20 minutes circling around Heathrow.

service was mediocre: our attendants seemed annoyed at most any request that was given them, even by older people asking for extra water. our video players were broken in several seats, too. there was trash on the plane when we boarded. there were several vegetarians and vegans in our group; despite over a month of preperation and notice for the airline, american managed to bungle several meals. luckily, we had extra snacks so no one starved...
