We had never heard of Hainan Airlines before our trip to China. In fact, we had never traveled overseas. The service was just amazing. They brought hot washcloths to us to freshened up and then served two really good meals. All through the 11 hour flight, the attendants brought water and checked to see if we needed anything.
To be sure, it is hard to stay comfortable on an 11 hour flight. No seat is comfy after all that time! However, the flight crew did everything possible to make thins pleasant. They made sure we had the necessary paperwork filled out to be able to enter China with no difficulties.
If we ever get to go to China gain, I will do all I can to try and fly with Hainan. None of the "horror stories" we heard about Chinese based airlines applied to these guys! A+

for a LONG flight, i expected much better amenities like personal monitors and bigger seats with leg room. i'm 125lbs. and i was stuck in between two 300lbs giants that stole my elbow space. the flight from Seattle to Tokyo (the longer flight) had smaller seats and crappier food than the flight from Tokyo to Beijing (the shorter flight)... yes, the stuck in between giants took place during the longer flight!
