After spending an idyllic visit in San Francisco and Yosemite we headed back to PA. SFO was an average experience, the flight to Detroit was OK as well. The second leg of our journey was the nightmare! We were delayed in Detroit due to bad weather and the flight was cancelled, after being rushed into the plane for an early take-off and then waiting on the plane for an extra hour...thus the start of Delta jerking everyone around! No one was helpful at the airport, except the janitor, who directed us to where we needed to go to find a hotel for the night! We ended up at a crappy Super 8 for the night. When we arrived back at the airport that day, first we had reservations, then we didn't, then we had seats, then we didn't. My husband waited at the check-in desk at the gate for 2 hours before anyone helped him! (They kept saying to please wait until the next flight left from that gate...but then another flight was scheduled to leave and they became "busy" immediately). The gates changed 4 times and no one informed the people waiting of the change. Finally after a 4 hour delay with all those gate changes, the flight finally boarded. There was no beverage service, but the pilot did offer any alcholic beverage to the passengers!!! Was anyone really interested in an alcoholic beverage??? Once we arrived in MDT our luggage was not on the claim "belt". When we went to the Baggage Claim desk, the guy there opened a door to a big room and said "Go in and look to see if your luggage is in there"!!! Luckily we did find our luggage, ourselves, w/o any real help from the person at the desk. To top it all off, one of our bags, we later discovered at home, was ruined (the zipper was broken). Plus, my husband had to use a vacation day for the extra day we spent in Detroit. What a waste of a vacation day!!! We found Delta to be very impersonal and uncaring. We will not use Delta again!
