The flight was fine. It was a little late leaving Portland. The only complaint I have is the woman across from me talked non-stop from the time we left Portland until we arrived in Oakland. I felt sorry for the man she was sitting next to,as well as everyone else on the flight.

Horizon flight on smaller CJ700 jet gets you smaller seats, much smaller overhead bins, and too many fellow passengers trying to fit oversized 'carryon' into said bins. On the plus side, the NW beer was nice. On the flight from PDX to OAK, could barely hear safety instructions as the stewardess raced thru them, altho' there was a good bit of humor re Martha Stewart lav (like the one in prison). On the flight back from OAK to PDX, the safety instructions were discernible when slowed down. In PDX, one gets on & off the plane on tarmac via very narrow gangway/stairs, so it would be difficult to negotiate with luggage (the overstuffed 'carryon') or any kind of impairment. OK, but seats are tight, and fellow passengers need to get real about limits on 'carryon.'

Long check-in process and seat (dis)comfort are generally accepted anymore. But the least the airlines could do is hire staff that are helpful, professional and courteous. Blanketing introductions to the friendly skies with canned humor is getting a bit cliche, and it doesn't make up for rude, ill prepared, staff. How is a stewardess supposed to function if her press-on fingernails are so long that she cannot even open an overhead storage door effectively? And communication skills are completely absent. This is the second flight I have taken within a year where the stewardess almost picks a fight with a customer (the first time it was not me...) that could have easily been avoided with a change in tone and attitude. I would seriously consider a 12-hour drive rather than deal with the ridiculous security restrictions and incompetent efforts of the air stewards.
