For overall value and good flight experience, Southwest has been great. Larger, more comfortable seats and personnel that seem to enjoy their jobs and share humorous quips along the way combine to ease the stress of flying.

My husband and I both like Southwest more than other airlines due to the roomier seats and more economical flights. Even though the flights costs the same, or even slightly more, when initially checking prices, after you add in $20 or more for each bag each way, Southwest seems to always win.

I fly a lot for work so I am usually prepared for the occasional less than stellar flight. I wasn't prepared for how small the planes were that I flew on this trip, how old they were, how worn out they were and how poorly maintained they were. I'm not sure why I'm always the lucky one but I seem to be a magnet for attracting seats that won't stay upright (and getting yelled at by the flight attendants for not having an upright seat during takeoff and landing), seats that have trays that won't stay up (see previous comment about flight attendants and me) and crying babies. I don't even want to get into a conversation about other passengers' total disregard for the carry-on luggage rule. Add the fees that you now have to pay to check luggage, the costs for food service if you don't want peanuts and a soda, the costs for something other than a middle seat in the back of the plane and now the additional fees it costs to fly on a certain day of the week or during a certain month, and it all adds up to an uncomfortable ordeal to fly. It used to be a pleasure and it used to be affordable. Now it's neither.
