I have been flying Virgin 20 years. Each flight is the exactly the same, Brilliant, nothing is a problem. food is always good cabin is super clean, flight staff always polite and a smile. Pilot always speaks to passengers, if there is a few bumps ahead, always cautious with the seatbelt signs etc.

Our experience began in Newark NJ where it is typical to encounter airline personnel that are less than professional, let alone friendly or courteous. Virgin Atlantics check in personnel completely dispelled any doubts I may have had about flying from Newark. They were by far the most attentive, courteous, friendly people I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Without hesitation the young man at the check-in counter offered us assistance with every question my wife and I had. Then quite unexpectedly he gave us information on the area we were traveling to, he offered us more leg room seats, he advised us on certain customs (all of which he was correct about) and did it all with a smile. As our vacation was coming to an end, my flying home from Heathrow was already stressing me. I had heard horror stories about that airport and the airline officials and customs officials there. Once again much to my surprise and delight Virgin Atlantic stepped up to the plate and served up a home run! The kiosk official helped me with my check in, because there was a problem with my ticket. The baggage personnel handled everything with extreme care; the fee counter (for upgrades) moved me to a much better seat (without charge)! The most important part of our trips was of course the flights. Please let me say I have NEVER been treated so well in economy travel. The flight attendants were amazing. When we were tired they were actually very aware and courteous trying not to make any unneeded noise. When we were awake they were talking with us, sharing stories and offering a friendly ear. The food and drinks were always available (unlike Delta or Continental). I could not have ever wished for more on a 7.5 hour flight. Virgin Atlantic is in my opinion the finest airline for international travel and I highly recommend them.

“Continental's terrible response to winter weather in Newark”

I was set to fly out from Newark to London Heathrow at 10:10 PM on Jan 26th, 2011 - right in the middle of a winter storm. I understand that the airlines were trying to get as many flights out as possible, but with white-out conditions outside, it was clear to all of us in the terminal that no flights would be leaving that evening. When the airport was finally closed at midnight, all remaining passengers were told to exit the secure area and go back to the check-in desks for rebooking. Imagine hundreds of people in a single line with only TWO agents helping! At 2:00 AM the agents went home, leaving us to spend the night on the floor of the check-in hall! After 17 hours in line, I was finally rebooked and arrived at my destination only 24 hours late, but the way that Continental treated the stranded passengers is unforgivable in my book. So if there's a possibility for winter weather during your trip - BEWARE OF CONTINENTAL!

Hindu Vegetarian Meal going to London was terrible but was very good coming back to Newark!. Flight arrived 45 minutes earlier than scheduled times at both airports. I would travel by Continental again and will not be loyal to British Airways anymore. Ticket was cheaper than Virgin by $149.

We flew from Detroit to Newark with no problem but were supposed to leave Newark at 9:30 pm.We saw a notice on marquee that flight would be delayed and would not leave until 12:30 am.We were on a cruise that would leave Southampton United Kingdom at 5pm.Our flight was supposed to land at Heathrow at 9:20 am their time and we still had a 2hr journey on the cruise transportation to Heathrow.Once we arrived at Heathrow we circled the airport for a half hour and then sat on the runway for another half hour.Needless to say it was very close, the cruise line waited for us and we made the ship with not much time to spare

I usually fly Business Class because I'm just too old to be cramped up all day/night in the ridiculously-sized Economy seats. Virgin's Premium Economy is just like Business Class on most other carriers. The seats don't recline as much, though, so take a daytime flight if you need to lay down to sleep on a plane (Virgin has a daytime flight to London). I saved thousands, and had a very pleasant flight!

The only thing negative I have to say is check-in on departure. Besides going thru the regular check-in you have to do an additional physical check-in at gate. So redundant. Also the seat I chose was not directly behind the front and quite uncomfortable for eating.
