    Peru Trip on TACA

by TAAmy on September 9, 2010

Flight from New York City to Lima

    Airline:
    Taca
    RT/OW
    Round Trip
    Number of Stops:
2 stops in San Salvador, El Salvador and San Pedro Sula, Honduras
    Date of Flight:
    August 2010
    Seat Class:
    economy

Our February scheduled Peru trip was canceled due to the mudslides and rescheduled for August. The tour company made the changes but TACA still charged us the rebooking fee because they still were flying to Lima from the US. Our trip insurance didn't cover the change fees because the airline and tour company did not "default". August was dry and safer anyway. TACA had comfortable seats, pleasant attendants, tasty food with complimentary wine or beer, and good movies. They had plenty of pillows and blankets. Changing at San Salvador was fine. On the return north, after San Salvador, we stopped at San Pedro Sula in Honduras and everyone had to deplane and go through a search of carry-on bags and a pat down. I was the only passenger who had to remove shoes. Very strange, but that was not TACA's fault. Note that Peru requires payment of a departure tax both for flights within country ($7) and departing from the country ($31) which takes time in a separate line from checking in and security. The major annoying part of the entire trip was returning to JFK at 3:30 a.m. and waiting over an hour to get through security as there were only 2 booths open for US Citizens while many were open for green card residents and visitors and dignitaries.

Flew on LAN´s 767-300 nonstop. The plane was immaculate and loved the free inflight entertainment options. FA´s service was great and efficient, food also good. LAN upgraded my wife and I to an exit row after we noticed they originally had us sitting apart.
