Just returned from a fabulous trip to New Zealand.Highly recommend Air New Zealand's new Skycouch class of seating in Economy.ANZ suggests 2 people can share the three seat sleeping platform, however we chose to have our own individual platforms. We were able to sleep horizontally and the cost was less than 1/2 of Business class. Skycouch was much more comfortable than Premium Economy seating.

I spent $1,300 for an economy class ticket from Los Angeles to New Zealand (plus a ticket for my wife and daughter--more than $3,400). But, I guess that wasn't enough to qualify for miles on Star Alliance. I was livid! I'm sure something was written in fine print (as it always is), but there was no clear indication that I would not earn miles for this trip. To me, ANZ policy is beyond disgusting. The flight itself was fine, but I was so upset by this "trick" that I will never fly the airline again. Deceitful, bad, customer-unfriendly policies.

Include Australia or pacific Island in NZ itinerary Leave LAX at 9.30pm and arrive am in NZ. No jet lag. 12-14hr flight, sleeping most of the way. Latest movies, great meals, great staff. When you get to Lax, pay $55 for Lounge privileges, take a shower, use internet, eat, drink and relax till preboarding. Very relaxing and enjoyable.

Flew Air New Zealand for the first time. Attendants were helpful and exceedingly polite. Choice of 78 movies! Food was better than average and no end of drinks were available including New Zealand wines.

Our plane, on the return trip, was the new airbus and had problems and had to turn around and head back to Austrailia return. We had to be put up overnight. The crew all decided to stay the course and flew with us the next day. They went out of their way to make us comfortable. We were a day late getting home, but no-one on the plane got out of line. It was amazing.

I managed to catch Air New Zealand's flash sale to Auckland a few weeks ago (thanks for AFWD!) and just completed my trip. The staff at the airport and crew were all incredibly friendly and made me feel like a valued customer from check-in to landing in Auckland. I was quite apprehensive about the 13 hour flight from LAX to Auckland, but the excellent meal service plus the wealth of entertainment options onboard made the entire experience pass in no time at all. Even the seats in economy class were pretty comfortable and I was able to sleep on a plane for first time in my life! Overall a great experience and would highly recommend Air New Zealand for your trip to the south Pacific!

Air NZ really sets the standard for air travel. All around I was impressed. Extremely friendly staff who went out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed. Attendants made special trip to the back when I asked if they had any decaf coffee. Out they came with a huge cup of it for me. Tastey NZ wines with dinner. Plenty of movies to choose from. Cabin and bathrooms remained clean and tidy throughout the trip. Departed/arrived right on schedule and bags showed up with no problems. I flew Qantas for some puddle hop flights within NZ, and they didn't even compare to AirNZ. None of the US airlines I've flown since that trip has compared either. Go with AirNZ, you'll be glad you did!

Even if it costs you a little more, you'll thank me for convincing you to fly Air New Zealand first choice and then any non-US airline after that. If you're stuck on a plane for 12+ hours you want to have on-demand video, decent food and friendly staff. ANZ beats everyone hands down on these dimensions. ANZ's connections from the east coast aren't great though. Qantas is also a better choice than the US carriers.
