I traveled to Los Angeles for (what I assumed was going to be) a week to visit some friends. After a really fantastic time, my friends and I headed to LAX two hours in advance to catch my flight. On a Wednesday afternoon, we ran into unforeseen traffic of an epic proportion! We had no idea what was going on around LAX, but by time we got into LAX itself, I had only 40 minutes to catch my flight, and there was a line for security stretching outside the building! When I finally checked in, I was told that it was too late, and that I would have to find another flight. Cue about three hours of stress and phone calls trying to arrange a flight home. At one point, I was told (by my third-party booking service, StudentUniverse) that I wasn't going to make it out of LA until over a week later! What?! After some frantic shuffling around on the line, I finally booked a flight home with Delta, but the soonest they could get me there was five days later. After my extended vacation (which turned out rather nicely!), I headed back home, but I had a scheduled four-hour layover in ATL before I arrived in ALB. After wandering around ATL as a storm rolled in outside, four hours turned into five hours, which turned into six... which eventually ended up being an eight-hour ordeal! To make matters worse, I had to board the plane on an uncovered ramp in the rain when they finally did let us board! The only saving grace of this second leg of the flight was the fantastic flight attendants who were rather hilarious and freely joking with the passengers about what an episode this flight turned into. I finally arrived in Albany in the wee hours of the morning, and I was just glad to be back at home!
