We've traveled west to east extensively on various carriers. Jet Blue non-stop service to IAD out of Long Beach is a fairly great experience and generally priced right. Flights are usually full so tend to book extra leg room which simulates that first class experience, though the coach seating not bad at all! We use curbside check-in coming and going. Sweet!

Booked only 2 weeks before, not many seats left on red-eye so I upgraded to extra-legroom seat to get an aisle.
Uneventful flight, the way it should be!
Return trip was equally uneventful, though there was an annoying employee at Dulles airport who kept admonishing me to "fix your bag". Bag wasn't broken, nor was anything leaking or spilling out.
