We usually fly S.W. to West palm and back, since the airport is so close to our home. I usually get on the A line (hate this system)We have to wait for the wheel chair customers ,at least 25 plus companions= 50 passengers, to pre-board, then the A group. We are at the end of the A group or in the B group and we just manage to get seats together in the rear of the plane. When the plane lands in West Palm, we notice there are usually a handful of wheelchair passengers waiting for their chairs. The majority of the handicapped were cured by the miracle flight and rushed off, by foot, no chairs, no canes. Do Miracles never cease??? We are so annoyed by this occurence, that, on our next trip, in August, we booked a flight on Jet Blue. We know we will have an assigned seat, and we will not have to put up with Miracle Cures, A,B,C, lines.

South West, get with it. Have assigned seats.

    I love Southwest, BUT.....

I did not appreciate (and I think many other passengers would agree with me) being told by the flight attendant that if enough passengers did not agree to move (which meant taking a middle seat in this full-to-capacity flight) so that a family with three kids could sit together, "we are not going anywhere. We will push back only when enough people switch with them, and if we have to we'll just sit here and wait for as long as it takes."

As you know, Southwest has open seating, and there are three things you can do to ensure you have a decent place in the line. You can pay 10 dollars a seat extra for Early Bird Check-in, which guarantees you an A boarding pass, or you can sit at your computer exactly 24 hours before your departure time and check in. You can also purchase a Business Select fare, which is more money, but boards before everyone else. So, to threaten a plane full of passengers with delaying the flight's departure because this family did none of those things--well, you can imagine how that went over.

They finally did get enough people to switch, but that's beside the point. We left the gate late.

On another note, on my Southwest flight up to Islip on Xmas day, the flight attendants would not let anyone sit in the six seats in the last row, saying they were "saving them" for a family of six.

Southwest, you either have open seating or you don't!!!! Make up your mind, but if you do have open seating, then stop saving rows, and stop threatening passengers who don't want to sit in a middle seat when they planned ahead and secured an A boarding pass.

I have never seen either of these things happen on a Southwest flight before, and I fly quite a lot.

I'm a big fan of the airline, but this was not good customer service.
