The flight was pleasant. Boarding process was smooth. We paid extra to sit in the exit row; so we had enough legroom. Pilot did a great job landing, very smooth.

Both the flight down and the return flight were noneventful - no problems.

The return trip was a nice surprise. We used our frequent flyer miles and were given seats in the First Class cabin and our checked luggage was tagged and brought out early.

We decided to pay for the big front seats since we heard how many more seats Spirit had for the same plane size as others. It was worth it. Paying for a carry on is really a rip off but it does save time boarding but is it worth it? Ride was fine. Check in in Detroit was very slow compared to check in at Fort Lauderdale. They seemed much more prepared. Would it really hurt them to give out a can of pop to passengers? The 40 # limit is a bit ridiculous when suitcases weigh as much as 15# or higher.

Please be AWARE, each airport has their own rules abt baggage-my personal bag was fine at Detroit and in Fort Lauderdale my handle stuck 3/8 of an inch higher and they made me pay $25 - while in the security line another person ck'd her bag and her handle stuck up at least 3 inches above the allotted line and that Spirit employee let her pass. I will NEVER fly Spirit again and it seemed as though everyone in line felt the same way - heard nothing but negative comments.

I have flown on Spirit twice now. The 1st time I swore I would never do it again, but decided everyone deserves a 2nd chance....WRONG! The second time was worse than the 1st. I was delayed both ways, and the seats are ridiculously cramped and uncomfortable. Oh, and 1 of the bathrooms was out of order which meant there was a long wait to use the bathroom the entire trip. And lets not even get started on all of the extra fees!

If this was one of those super-cheap flights I wouldn't have room to complain, but this wasn't a bargain! My ticket was $490, and I had to cram my stuff into a backpack so I wouldn't have to pay another $60 to bring a suitcase!

Sorry Spirit - but you will never again get my business...too many disappoints and delays.

Though I bought seven tickets two months ago, I was informed the checked baggage policy had changed from 50 lbs. to 40 lbs. for an additional $25.00 per bag. I had seven passengers in my group. Once on the plane not only were any small snacks offered, water was an additional change. Of course the only carry on's were to be stowed under your front seat or you were to pay an additional $20 charge. I have erased Spirit off my bookmarks and refuse to look at another Spirit flight. By the way the seven tickets r/t from Detroit to Ft. Lauderdale cost me over $3,200.00

My family of five flew spiritair october 6 to 16 2010. All 5 of us flew for a total of $277 on one of their $9 deals. The flight was good and the staff where friendly. They made sure our family sat together. The seats are not the most comfortable but it was only $9 and we were only on the plane a couple of hours. I would fly them again.

All the current jokes about Spirit are true. They charge for EVERYTHING, even water, on the flight. If you want to select your seat before departure, even a back-of-the-plane center seat, it costs you. Of course, carryons are now $45 at the gate, $30 online. Not to mention checked luggage at $25 or so a bag. The seats are so cramped it is ridiculous. But even with all these charges, they still manage to offer the cheapest nonstop from Detroit to Ft. Lauderdale, so I put up with it. On both flights we were delayed 30 minutes. The Ft. Lauderdale crew was a real bright spot as we waited. Very friendly and sympathetic. The confusion about the newly instituted carryon fee was kept to a minimum as far as I could see (I boarded first because I had paid my fee online) even though the gate agent's heavy Spanish accent made it very hard to understand the lengthy rules.

Do not fly Spirit Airlines. This airline nickel and dimes its passengers to death. Even the hand carry is charged $45 aside from the $30 charge for one's check-in luggagge. Choosing a seat online will cost you another $12. The plane we rode from Ft. Lauderdale was disgustingly dirty. I hope to never give them business again.

The flight to Ft. Lauderdale was ok. It was a newer 757 so it SEEMED like there was more room in the seat/leg room. Smooth flight, very good announcing the chance of turbulent air ahead. Pleasant stewardesses. Flight to Detroit...same type of plane but much older. When the gentleman in front put his seat back I felt like I was trapped with nowhere to go! Again, it was a very smooth flight with pleasant stewardesses. Unfortuantely this flight to Detroit was delayed by approximately two and a half hours. No explanation for the delay. I was notified by cell phone and email that the flight was delayed. The information was sent about 2 hours prior to the original departing time.

The flight from DTW to FLL was so-so, I needed a wheelchair and was told to wait in the wheel chair area for service. I had two small kids with me and though there was 2 wheel chairs and 2 attendants in the area the kids & I were still waiting, so I decided to make my own way through security to the gate. They "Tried" to accommodate my injury on the way to FLL but I was very uncomfortable in seat 17D on a Boeing 757-200. Ironically there seat 16A-C was an exit row with more than enough room to stretch out. What made the trip for me was the service at FLL just a wonderful airport with people with a heart for service. Both coming and going we had Wheel chair service from the gate to the curb. The attendant was very sweet even though some guy was being a jerk to her, she was able to accommodate my injury and insisted on keeping the kids in the same row while doing so. We had plenty of room for my injured leg right behind 1st class.

Great Job Delta & FLL airport. I think FLL needs to be a benchmark for service in the airline industry.

Baggage fees, carry on fees, fees for water, disgruntled employees, late flights, uncomfortable seats...Flying Spirit Air isn't the real bargain they pretend to be... The whole airline industry has lost it's focus. We have decided to spend more of our travel dollars close to home. We used to fly four times per year, not sure we will fly at all during the next 12 months.
