Everything was on schedule and on time! No problems going through security. We were pleasantly surprised that we were served meals at no extra expense and provided with blankets and a pillow. I have long legs and sat by the window, so I didn't think the seats were all that comfortable (I don't like to get up and walk around). Also the seats by the windows don't seem to recline as far back as the others so it was hard to try to sleep! Other than that, it was an overall good flight experience, considering it was economy!

Flight ok, lost our luggage; ridicluous 18hrs layover on return trip

Trip started out fine with 4hr layover in Madrid(Iberia Airline). When we landed in Rome(FCO)and waited to claim our baggage; the bags never came. After inquiring at their service counter, they said it coming on a later flight and had us filled out the paperwork and that would delivery it to our hotel. We waited for two days with daily calls to the claim office on the status. They had the bag, but wouldn't release it. We asked our tour director for assistance. We are forever grateful to him(Globus Tour). He was on the phone with them for good 15 minutes, was finally able to get them to delivery the bags to our hotel room 11:30pm at night.

Love the tour of Italy, but we decided to return home on different airline, because:

1)we didn't want to chance losing our luggage again.

2)especially with 18hrs layover in Madrid for the return trip home.

Decide to forfeit our Iberia return ticket.

Overall experience with Iberia is terrible; will not fly with them again.

Inseat entertainment was varied and made the time go quickly. The airline provided multiple movie choices, in multiple languages, multiple TV show choices, and hundreds of CD choices (at no additional cost) In addition, beverages (including beer and wine)blankets and pillows at no additional cost. Only downcheck is that it was a crowded flight(I can see why I'll fly them again in a heartbeat).

despite the volcanic ash, our flight departed on time and arrived earlish.

food was terrible. perhaps it would have been inproved if it had been preceded by a cocktail.

coffee was horrible and cold. and such small servings.

cabin crew were very nice and helpful.

but it appears that it is their habit to build a tent out of blankets and sleep[?] in there. hummm

I bought my tickets with insurance from a discounter because it said "US carrier" which you find out after you purchase. I felt comforatable with that. Turns out that it was Delta and the "new" Alitalia (I guess they merged). I personally can't stand either, but Alitalia takes the cake. They should be embarassed by the food they serve...I could get better at a cheap fast food stand(and they are representing Italy?). What really ticked me off was that I paid $50 for the second bag (which I expected) going to Rome, but when returning back to Boston from Rome they charged me 50 Euro for the second bag (which comes to a a 33% increase. I was told quite rudely"In the US you pay dollars, here in Italy you pay Euros". No wonder Alitalia has been having serious problems for years. FYI- I stayed at a friends home outside the city of Rome, Yep, right next to the Alitalia building. What an eyesore! Half the building is un-used and there are a ton of gypsys and dogs infiltrating the area ( you can imagine what they are doing to the empty part of the building) and the Police, nor Alitalia do anything about it...Never will I fly Delta or their affiliates again. Even past problems with them still haunt me.

My wife & I flew to Rome for our honeymoon in Italy. Our Alitalia flight was right on-time for both flights and the in-flight service was fantastic. I would definitely fly Alitalia again in the future!
