Allegiant Air Overview

Allegiant Air is a U.S.-based, publicly traded (NASDAQ symbol ALGT) low-cost airline offering scheduled and charter flights. Allegiant Air was founded in 1997 and made its first hub in Fresno, California. Today, Allegiant Air has its headquarters just outside of Las Vegas in nearby Enterprise, Nevada. Allegiant Air has minor hubs at Bellingham International Airport, Washington (BLI); Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Florida (FLL); Honolulu International Airport, Hawaii (HNL); Los Angeles International Airport, California (LAX); Oakland International Airport, California (OAK); Orlando-Sanford International Airport, Florida (SFB); Palm Springs International Airport, California (PSP); Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Arizona (AZA); Punta Gorda Airport, Florida (PGD); and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, Florida (PIE).

Allegiant Air runs charter flights for Harrah's, running the resort's Laughlin and Reno air routes within Nevada.

The low-cost approach of Allegiant Air allows the airline to serves smaller markets often overlooked by larger carriers. For example, Allegiant Air serves the Walt Disney World area via Orlando-Sanford International Airport (SFB) as opposed to the highly trafficked Orlando International Airport (MCO). Likewise, in the southwestern United States, Allegiant Air operates in Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) instead of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Allegiant Air has established the same secondary-airport strategy in Vancouver via Bellingham, the San Francisco area via Oakland, Chicago via Rockford, and so on.

The ultra-low-cost strategy employed by Allegiant Air means the airline does things a bit unconventionally. Flights are sold exclusively on AllegiantAir.com and not via any online travel agents (Expedia, Kayak, Hotwire, Travelocity, etc.). Also unlike most other airlines, Allegiant Air does not offer a frequent-flyer loyalty program, so its passengers do not accrue miles or points. Allegiant Air charges for carry-on bags, a practice observed only by one other U.S. carrier, Spirit Airlines. Allegiant Air also cuts costs by limiting flights to only a few times per week or seasonally on nonstop routes; Allegiant Air does not offer daily flights to any of its destinations. Snacks are never offered on Allegiant Air flights, and seats on Allegiant Air aircraft do not employ a reclining mechanism (seats come pre-reclined).

Allegiant Air employs more than 1,800 staff members.

I live in Chambersburg, PA so this airport was the logical answer. It was local, so we didn't have to have someone drive us and pick us up, free parking for the week for the car, short security lines than larger airports, but still had to check in 2 hours ahead! I was very skeptical of flying Allegiant, but I liked the direct flight into Sanford, FL. Only 2 hours and then another 45 minutes to Orlando. Sure beat driving 15+ hours! Yes, you have to pay for drinks and snacks, but for the cost it wasn't that bad...most only have a drink anyways. Best thing to do is buy a soda from the vending machine and take it with you on the flight and ask for a cup of ice! Saves you $3...eat a sandwich or snack before you leave! I loved this flight so much I am planning to do it again in 2017(as long as they stay at Hagerstown Airport)! Out of 10 jets, I give this 9 jets! Give it a try, I don't think you will be disappointed!

I was scared after reading all the horrible reviews, but I have to be honest for the price and getting me to vegas in 2.5 hours with no delays, you can't beat it. I was cold the entire flight, seats are not great but next time I will bring a blanket (my mistake) Plan on flying to Vegas again in May 2014 with Allegiant. Hopefully I will have the same good luck. I am sure I would be more comfortable paying $600 with a layover for some of the bigger airlines, but no thanks.

As long as you are aware of baggage costs and rules, as well as seat reservation fee, you will be pleasantly pleased with your experience. The best part is a fast, non-stop direct flight at a good price.

Another plus is the ease of getting in and out of the Phoenix-Mesa airport where Allegiant is based in Arizona.

We have been flying Allegiant Air for about 10 years and have never had a delay. I love how all their flights are direct. Rates are incredibly low. You really have to understand why they are low to know and appreciate them. You don't pay all the extra fees for conveniences. We purchase at the counter directly. We don't pay to pick our seats and we've NEVER had to sit apart. We don't check any bags in, we bring the FREE size bag. Bring our own snacks and drinks. The flight attendants are very nice and friendly. They ALWAYS greet you when you enter/exit the aircraft. I love their Live Chat customer service, way better than calling the 800#. They really are a great airline company and I was really upset to see such negative reviews. The only reason I'm posting my positive review is because I don't want their business to go decline and therefore they run out of business or either raise their prices. Fly with Allegiant! You won't be disappointed.

I live in murphy, nc, about 90 miles from the airport in Chattanooga. very easy drive to say the least. Atlanta airport is 135 miles from us and a crappy drive. Chattanooga airport parking is a snap and the walk to the terminal is like walking from the shopping mall parking into the mall. very short! flight to Clearwater/st.pete takes appx 1.5 hours. my dad picks me up outside and away we go. I go to florida about once-a-month so allegiant is my choice. rates are super great but they only fly on certain days so you have to be flexible. great service all around. btw, I always pick the exit row for extra leg room.

I took the inaugural flight from SFB TO OKC on 11-14-2013 (first flight ever with allegiant) was a little leery from all the reviews, but with all charges paid up front total was 64.50, the next cheapest flight was 197.00+++ and no non stops. the staff at both airports went out of way to help and also on flight. Not quite sure way some feel the need to say worst experience, as an employee for one of the major airlines, I see delays all the time for many reasons out of airlines control so remember before bashing them to get the whole story. Thanks again allegiant as I will be using you agian and again.

Super quick and easy check in. I even had a wine opener ( that I am very fond of) that was in my purse. It was not something they would allow on the plane unless I checked the bag. It was not worth the money to has sale to do that, but they did allow me to take it out to my car so it would not be lost to me forever. It had been a gift I bought my husband so I said thank you very much and walked right out to the car and put it away.

When arriving at St. Pete everything was smooth as well. We got our rental car and off we went. It was a no has sadly flight for sure. We normally fly out of Detroit. This is much closer to home and far less complicated and cheaper.

My husband and I have been flying Allegiant for approximately 6yrs from Orlando to Knoxville and to Plattsburgh and Chattanooga. We have been very pleased with the courtesy, efficiency, flight comfort, skill of pilots and service. We have taken advantage of their frugal offerings such as purchasing at the counter to save the convenience fees, we use carry on only that are the "free" size, no checked bags, and we do not select our seats. Our relatives in Plattsburgh also fly Allegiant. You just have to learn how to use the limited flight schedules and you are on your way. We highly recommend Allegiant!

My wife took her mother to Harrisburg International Airport on June 3, 2013 for her return flight to Orlando. Her mother is in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's and is forgetful, etc., so my wife wanted to get a "pass" to the gate so she could accompany her mother to the gate without her getting lost or disoriented in the restroom, etc., forgetting to board her flight. Getting a pass is a common procedure/courtesy... but not to the ticketing counter employee. He scowled at my wife, was rude in his comments, and, after he ignored her for 15 minutes, she feared being late; so she left the counter and took her mother to the check in area to get in line. After she got in line, my wife returned to the ticketing counter for a second attempt, and the check-in employee scolded her for leaving the counter. She explained that she had to in order not to miss the flight. She never did get her pass, and tried her best to communicate with her mom via cell phone. I know it's a discount no-frills airline and they charge you for absolutely everything (seat placement, checked bags, even carry on bags), but do they really have to be that rude on top of it!?

Thanks to Alligiant airlines discount flights to Oahu we were able to realize our dream of going to hawaii. although we were told there have been cut backs with air traffic control to expect delays we didn't experience any. Our flight left right on time, arrived on time, came home on time. Our round trip tickets were $ 199 each which was steal not to mention we left from Fresno, Ca. and flew without any stops. They only annoying thing about this flight was that you cannot even get a drink of water without paying a few dollars. it is a four hour flight and it would have been nice to have a drink without forking over money. also, at every other airline i know of you get one carry on and one personal item but alligiant only allows a personal item. All carry-on's cost exactly the same as checked lugguge. If you want to pick where you sit, that is another charge. it would be very easy to end up paying the same as a mainstream airline if you were not watchful. I am not sure how they could get the seats any smaller, closer together or closer to the seat in front of you. On both the trip there and back i really only had a half of a seat because i had to share a portion of it with my neighbor. All in all it was worth the price and we were very happy with our trip.

I have 7 tickets scheduled for a departure later this month for my wedding. I needed to make some updates to a couple of my tickets and sat on hold waiting for a travel adviser for 1 hour and 28 minutes and counting now. I cannot imagine how a company can possibly view this as customer service. I cannot imagine what staffing may look like considering this unreasonable wait time. I am a reasonable and professional person, however, this lack of service deeply concerns me. I work in a customer service industry as a manager and feel that our students experience is of utmost importance. I will continue to hold until I have the opportunity to speak to an adviser; however, I cannot imagine choosing to travel with this airline ever again due to this experience.

Booked a return trip from Niagara falls NY to Orlando/Sanford FL with allegiant air because of the cheap ticket price. The total with seat selection and one checked bag and tax, return was $201.00. Wow can't beat that. Both flights took off on time, the seats were tight and do not recline but are mangeable for the 2.5hr flight. If it was a longer flight I would consider another airline for sure just because of the seats. The drink service was prompt and they came around twice for orders. The check in procedures were easy pessey, a piece of advise for anyone travelling out of Orlando/Sanford airport, their is baggage drop off outside the main terminal door at the ticket counter terminal, this will save you from standing in line at the ticket counter to be served. Would definitely fly with them again

we only fly allegiant air, they r the cheapest non stop from pa to fl . our whole family uses this airline, with my parents being elderly, you would think it to be a hassle for them to be provided with a wheel chair.not the case at all the staff is above and beyond courtious, friendly, respectful and i feel that they have always gone the distance and then some with a smile and wonderful attitude.they actually took my dad all the way to the car to make sure that all was well.

i only ever made one change to a reservation and again-extremely helpful and courtious. for the person that felt like she had a terrible experience, maybe she should have asked to speak to a supervisor and explain her situation,99% - she would have gotten the whole thing staightenend out and had a nice trip.also when booking your flight you are offered trip flex for changes,so maybe that could have prevented any problems .

good luck next time,i say give them another try,you just might be pleasently satisfied.no might be,you will be satisfied.

Paid for seating $14 extra per ticket My wife my granddaughter and myself

After a three hour delay going from Fort Lauderdale to Greenville South Carolina

someone was sitting in my seat. Flight attendant respectfully did ask passenger to

take another seat. On return trip one hour delay We were rushed on the plane.

Our seats were taken. When I confronted the flight attendant she said there’s no -

assigned seats being honored. Took a seat toward the back And I was asked to move

by the flight attendant Because she said if I have a kid on board even though I wasn’t

able to sit with my granddaughter that I could not set at a exit seat. So here’s the 411 -

we pay for three seats…. paid for checking two bags… Paid a next or $14 per seat to be able to sit together so that I can have my wife with our granddaughter. When the seatbelt signs went off I went to check on my wife and granddaughter to find my granddaughter who is two years old sitting on my wife’s lap without a seat… How’s that for customer service….

After reading many of the reviews I was nervous about my flight because I had never flown Allegiant. I have to say it was one of the best experiences I have had flying. The flight was on time and the seats were very comfortable. The flight crew was pleasant and professional. We had a slight delay out of Honolulu, but the gate people figured it out and we made up the lost time in the air. I would not hesitate flying with Allegiant again.

I am attempting to get some assistance with a change in my reservation. I have called the phone number for customer assistance (not toll-free) five times this afternoon. Each time it was answered with an automated message, “We are experiencing heavy calls at this time.” After referring me to the web site, the system ended the call.

I have attempted to modify the reservation about ten different times on the Allegiant web site. Each time has been unsuccessful, and at times I received a message that there was a network error. I have tried different web browsers, but I am not able to make a change.

As a last chance effort, I have driven to our local airport in the hope of speaking with an Allegiant employee and getting some assistance. No such luck. I was turned away with advice to just keep trying the web site and the telephone number. The employee advised me that they are not able to modify tickets at the airport, but they can only accept payments for carry-on bags and check in travelers.

This is my first trip with Allegiant Airlines. So far, I am not impressed with the total lack of customer service or the way it chooses to run its business. I have spent at least three hours trying to accomplish what should take me no more than 20 minutes. A network error has made the web site unavailable for this change for over 12 hours, and the customer service number is a joke. Allegiant is not providing sufficient access for its customers to receive the assistance they deserve.
