It looks like some JetBlue passengers may be paying more to check a bag in 2020.

The Queens, New York-based carrier announced the change today, upping its first checked bag fee from $30 to $35. Second checked bags will also go up from $40 to $45. The increase will apply to flights booked from today onward.

This is now the second time in two years that JetBlue has raised baggage fees.

The good news? You can avoid paying that $5 fee hike by adding your checked bag to your reservation, either online or via the JetBlue app, at least 24-hours in advance of your flight.

Any bags added less than 24-hours before departure will be subject to the new checked baggage fees.

Passengers with reservations made prior to January 16, 2020, can still get by with paying the lower price, online or at the airport, with no advance requirement.

Additionally, passengers with a JetBlue co-branded credit card can check bags for free, along with Mint and Mosaic passengers.

Will other airlines follow JetBlue’s lead with fee hikes of their own? Stay tuned!
