New York – Reykjavik $285 Roundtrip on Delta

By TY Lim / shutterstock.com

WOW air might’ve gone kaput, but cheap fares to Iceland are still here to stay. Fly nonstop from New York to Reykjavik, Iceland for $285 roundtrip on Delta this fall and winter. If you've ever dreamt of seeing the Northern Lights, this might be the airfare deal for you as travel is wide open during the winter months. Daily flights start to appear in mid-October through the end of booking calendar in March. Peak holiday travel is blacked out, and October and November dates are a bit scarce compared to winter travel in January and February. Searching Delta's website, I was able to find tickets at this price leaving JFK on January 10, and returning from KEF on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Perfect for an extended weekend away trying to grab a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis.

Houston – Chicago $98 Roundtrip on Southwest

By rarrarorro / shutterstock.com

Here’s a fantastic deal linking up two of Southwest’s top focus airports. Fly nonstop from Houston-Hobby to Chicago-Midway for $98 roundtrip this spring or fall. Depending on which week you plan on traveling departure days will vary, there is lots of inventory available for itineraries in May and September; even some limited flights can be found during late summer travel. I was able to see a quick weekend trip in May for this price point departing HOU on Friday, May 3 and returning from MDW on Sunday, May 5, 2019. As always two bags fly free on Southwest so pack along everything you think you might need. Washington DC – St. Thomas $285 Roundtrip on Delta

By byvalet / shutterstock.com

No passport needed! Fly from Washington DC-Dulles to St. Thomas, USVI for $285 roundtrip on Delta Air Lines this fall. Flights to the tropical U.S. territory are available on scattered dates this May, September, and in winter 2020. You'll need to be flexible with your travel dates on this one, but it is available, you can also mix and match with a return flight to DCA, but those departures can be even harder to find on some weeks. But don't be discouraged this fare is out there and inventory in January and February is a lot easier to find. For an example of dates this spring, we were able to see departures from IAD on Wednesday, May 29 with a return from STT on Thursday, June 6, 2019, available.

Chicago – Sydney $644 Roundtrip on Qantas and Partners

By Pocholo Calapre / shutterstock.com

If you haven’t been to Australia before I’d recommend you start planning soon as we’re seeing amazing prices Down Under lately and who knows how long they will last. Here’s one of them, fly from Chicago-ORD to Sydney for only $644 roundtrip on Qantas and United/American. Crikey! Qantas will operate the long leg of the flight while the other two partners will get you to either San Francisco or Dallas to make the connection. Trips at this price are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays through early December. You'll need to search on a third-party site to get the cost this low because booking directly with the airline is about $40 more. Searching Priceline, I found seats for this fare departing ORD on Tuesday, September 19, and returning from SYD on Thursday, October 3, 2019.

Newark – New Orleans $113 Roundtrip on United

By Jon Bilous / shutterstock.com

There’s never been a simpler way to visit the Big Easy on United. Fly nonstop from its Newark hub to New Orleans for only $113 roundtrip from late August through early October. For the most part, flights leaving Newark will have to take place Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday, with return flights from NOLA available Tuesday through Saturday. Giving you the extra Thursday or Friday to nights to spend on Bourbon Street. As an example, I was able to secure tickets at this price leaving EWR on Saturday, September 7 and returning from MSY on Saturday, September 14, 2019. These book into United’s basic economy fare bucket meaning only a small carry personal item like a purse or backpack is allowed.

Los Angeles – Shenzhen $396 Roundtrip on Hainan Airlines

By gui jun peng / shutterstock.com

Ranked as a 5-star airline by Skytrax, fly from Los Angeles to Shenzhen in style on Hainan for only $396 roundtrip this fall. Flight deals to China are becoming the norm lately but many of them only include Shanghai (PVG) and Beijing (PEK) so its nice to see when other airports get deeply discounted. Travel at this price is open daily from late August through early October, with some return flights available in late October. Sichuan Airlines is undercutting this route by $40 but will require an additional stop and longer layovers, so its best to book with Hainan as they have the more comfortable travel times. Searching their website, I found tickets at this rate leaving LAX on Friday, September 13, and returning from SZX on Monday, September 23, 2019. Booking through a third-party site is a good option if you can’t find the dates you want on Hainan’s webpage.

Miami – Malaga $380 Roundtrip on TAP Air Portugal

By S-F / shutterstock.com

TAP Air Portugal continues to pump out these under the radar deals to destinations across Europe at rates hundreds of dollars less than competitors. Take this swanky deal to southern Spain for example, fly from Miami to Malaga in the Costa del Sol for $380 roundtrip this winter. TAP was offering this fare for fall, but all those seats have sold out leaving only daily flights in January and February 2020 available at this price. Searching TAP's website, I found inventory at this price departing MIA on Friday, January 24 with a return flight from AGP leaving on Sunday, February 2, 2020. These book into TAP's light fare, allowing for only standard carry-on baggage.

Atlanta – Nairobi $766 Roundtrip on Qatar Airways

By mbrand85 / shutterstock.com

Here’s your chance to see the Big 5 on a safari while flying on a 5-star airline. Fly from Atlanta to Nairobi, Kenya for $766 roundtrip on Qatar Airways almost year-round. Departures open up later this month and are available through the spring, most of peak summer is blacked out, but then a lot of inventory opens back up in the fall and winter of 2020. Flights leaving Atlanta are on Monday and Wednesdays with Tuesday departures opening up in late 2019. Searching Qatar’s site, I found tickets at this price point flying from ATL on Wednesday, November 13 with a return leg from NBO on Monday, November 25, 2019. A Saturday night stay is required.

Raleigh-Durham – San Francisco $197 Roundtrip on Alaska or United

By titipongpwl / shutterstock.com

Fly nonstop from Raleigh-Durham to San Francisco for $197 roundtrip on either Alaska or United or a combination of them both. Departures are valid on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturdays starting in May; however, most availability will be found from August onward. If you can't seem to find dates that work for your schedule, you can purchase two separate one-way flights and create a custom itinerary between both carriers. As an example, searching Alaska, I found seats departing RDU on Tuesday, September 10 and returning from SFO on Saturday, September 14, 2019, which is the best time of year to visit SF for its notoriously late-arriving summer season.

By Checubus / shutterstock.com

Fly nonstop from Boston to Pittsburgh for $97 roundtrip this spring on either JetBlue or Delta Air Lines. This Monday through Thursday and Saturday fare is available starting in late April through May 22, 2019. That's a short travel window for spring, but you'll see that peak summer travel and flights through early October can be found for just $4 more which opens up the availability period quite a bit. Searching JetBlue, I found seats at this price departing BOS on Saturday, May 4 and returning from PIT on Thursday, May 9, 2019.
