For peak summer travel, fly nonstop from Los Angeles to Austin for $97 roundtrip on American, Delta, or United. For those of you in Texas who want to see LA this summer, this fare also works from Austin to Los Angeles.
Travel Availability
Travel dates range from May through December. The best availability starts in August, but there are mid-week travel dates available for peak summer travel.
I found this price available on Delta departing Los Angeles LAX on Tuesday, July 16, returning from Austin AUS on Tuesday, July 23.
Baggage
This Basic Economy fare includes a carry-on bag plus one personal item on American and Delta. United's Basic Economy fare only includes one small personal item and does not allow a carry-on bag. A checked bag costs $30 each way on all airlines.
Seat Assignments
Seats will be assigned at random upon check-in for this price. You may be able to pay a fee to choose your seat.
Alternate Fares
An upgrade to a standard Economy fare varies by airline and travel dates. We found Delta's Main Cabin Economy fare for only $60 more, or $157 roundtrip, while American and United seem to be charging over $100 more for the upgrade. This type of fare includes one free checked bag, advanced seat assignments, and allows ticket changes/upgrades for a fee. A checked bag is the same $30 fee each way.
Alternatively, fly nonstop on Southwest Airlines for $108 roundtrip and get two free checked bags and no change fees.
