Here's a rare deal from the west coast to Chile! Fly from San Francisco to Santiago, Chile for $601 roundtrip on a multi-airline itinerary, which involves flights on American, LATAM, and United. This is a tricky fare to book, so please read on for booking information.
First of all, I was only able to find this price by searching on Google Flights, choosing a specific airline itinerary, and clicking through to the United website links provided by Google. If you search directly on United's site, the price will be much higher. The strange thing about this is that this itinerary only includes one United flight leg. Most of the flight legs will be operated by LATAM.
When searching, you'll need to make sure you string together an itinerary with flights on American/LATAM connecting via Phoenix and Mexico City on the outbound flight. That's the easy part. The hard part is finding an itinerary on the return flight, which must include flights on LATAM and United (not American) via Lima and Los Angeles.
You'll find many choices with the last leg of your return flight on American, but choosing this itinerary and clicking through to American's website for booking will result in an error and a price jump. Make sure your return flight includes the last leg on United and you'll be able to book this price by choosing the United booking link. It's more scarce, but there are a few scattered dates available.
As an example booking, I found seats departing San Francisco SFO on Monday, February 11, returning from Santiago SCL on Tuesday, February 26.
You'll see the $601 roundtrip price available throughout the year, but flights with the final return leg on United may only be available for fall/winter travel, which is peak summer season in Chile!
