Cash Back vs Miles

Q. I’m using up my frequent flier miles as fast as I can because they're getting impossible to use, plus they keep on adding fees and increasing the miles required for a “free” ticket. So I'm going to get rid of my airline credit cards and switch to “cash back” card. Which one do you recommend?

A. We like the Blue Cash Card from American Express, which gives you unlimited 5% cash back on purchases made at gas stations, grocery stores, and drug stores and 1.25% on everything else, once your spending reaches $6500.

I love Discover, my card has no annual fee, cashback on everything, then each quarter they have a promotion for 5% cashback on particular purchases, for instance this quarter it is Gas, Hotels, Movies, & Theme parks.

We find that so many places domestically don't accept Amex cards and hardly any places overseas. also, the starting point of $6500 is pretty crappy and sneaky.

check with your local credit union. You may not get cash back, but the interest rate is usually a LOT lower.

We use the Charles Schwab card, it give 2% back on everything, no minimum spending needed.

Why would you ask an airfare-searching site for credit card suggestions that are completely unrelated to travel of any sort? How odd.
