I'm having mega trouble finding an affordable flight from tampa fl to Merida, Mexico in late March. It's over $400!. Are there any of those ticket consolidators I should be checking out? A. Flights to Merida can be pretty costly. You might have better (cheaper) luck flying into a busier airport such as Cancun, and taking a bus. You'll find buses run pretty regularly between Cancun and Merida, and will typically run you around $20 each way. We can't exactly vouch for the reliability or comfort of the bus, and it might be a bit of a hassle as far as travel time, but if you're looking for the cheapest way, this is most likely your best bet. You may find this TripAdvisor thread regarding bus companies and schedules to be helpful. Post a Comment
I have taken public buses between Cancun and Tulum and other places. ALWAYS GO FIRST CLASS (classe primera .. not sure if spelled right!) If you do go, just keep watch of your stuff. They even sell sodas on the bus if I recall. I am wondering on how safe it would be to go to Cancun on a bus from Matamoros... Anyone know??? by RGValleyGal on Thursday, January 28, 2010
I have used the bus system in the Yucatan extensively after flying the cheapest way, into Cancun. I bussed into Merida and have gone all over- everyplace the busses go. I am female, have gotten a few hungry looks, but have only found the yucatan people friendly and helpful. I do not speak spanish. Learn the basics , if you dont know them bathroom, water, etc.
Bus tickets (when I traveled) where not available with round trip purchase.
Take money for the bathrooms, you pay for the priviledge and sometimes the bathrooms even have TP. Every bus i ever got on was clean, quiet and air conditioned . I love the Yucatan. happy travels. by sita on Thursday, January 28, 2010
Agree 100% with mickisue.
That said, the question was about "affordable" fares. And what is affordable for me now is different from what I considered "affordable" when I was in college, for example. For that poster, the suggestion of taking a bus from Cancun is probably perfect. by jaded on Thursday, January 28, 2010
You're kidding, right? Thinking that a $400 ticket in the middle of high season to Mexico is EXPENSIVE???!!!
We really are getting spoiled by prices. by mickisue on Wednesday, January 27, 2010
