For Christmas this year, I'll be flying Delta from New York to Dublin, Ireland. My flight departs at 10pm but I'd prefer to fly one of the earlier flights, and without having to pay the huge difference in price. Is this possible? And if so, how can I improve my chances of getting a standby seat on the earlier flight, or atleast a better seat on my current flight. A. If there's room on the earlier flight, you won't be charged for the difference in fare, but you will probably have to pay Delta's same day change fee of about $50. The best thing to do to increase your chances of securing a standby seat is to arrive early. When you call to confirm your original flight, you can check to see how full those earlier flights are, as well as try and change your seat assignment on your original flight. Sorry for the long delay, just saw this. "SDC" means Same Day Confirmed, which is Delta's program replacing standby. For domestic flights, you have a window of three hours to ask for a confirmed reservation and seat on a flight. You just phone their reservations people. There is a charge for this, unless you are upper tier Medallion. For flights that are nearly full you need to phone right at the three hour mark, as many others are probably poised at their phones ready to pounce. by Autopilot on Monday, January 05, 2009
For those of us not well-versed in the lingo, what does SDC mean? Standby change? Do you mean that such a change charge will not be levied or that such a change of plane is not possible on int'l flights? by MAG on Tuesday, December 09, 2008
There's no SDC on int'l flights. by Palal on Tuesday, December 09, 2008
