JetBlue

Notifications of Delays, Cancellations, Diversions

JetBlue will notify passengers of delays, cancellations, and diversions. Notification may be given in any of the following forms: via JetBlue.com, automated telephone call, flight-information display system, airport announcement, onboard announcement, email, or text message.

Cancellations by Traveler

Passengers will have 24 hours from the time of their original booking to cancel their reservation without being charged a cancellation fee, regardless of fare selected, if travel was booked seven days or more prior to the departure date. Bookings that have been changed are not eligible for a credit card refund and are subject to a cancellation fee, regardless of being within 24 hours of the original booking.

JetBlue offers several fare options—Blue, Blue Plus, and Blue Plex—and the change/cancellation fee amounts differ based on the fare option selected.

For Blue fares, a $70 cancellation fee per person applies for cancellations made 60 days or more prior to departure date. A $70 per person fee for fares under $100, a $90 per person fee for fares between $100 and $149, and a $135 per person fee for fares $150 or more apply for cancellations made within 60 days of the departure date. All changes include the difference in fare in addition to the above fees.

For Blue Plus fares, a $60 cancellation fee per person applies for cancellations made 60 days or more prior to departure date. A $60 per person fee for fares under $100, an $80 per person fee for fares between $100 and $149 and a $120 per person fee for fares $150 or more apply for cancellations made within 60 days of the departure date. All changes include the difference in fare in addition to the above fees.

For Blue Plex fares, there is no fee to cancel a reservation prior to departure. The difference in fare still applies.

For all fares booked PRIOR to June 30, 2015, a $75 per person fee apples to cancellations made 60 days or more prior to departure date. A $75 per person fee for fares under $100, an $100 per person fee for fares between $100 and $149 and a $150 per person fee for fares $150 or more apply for cancellations made within 60 days of the departure date.

Cancellations Within Airline Control

Any passenger whose flight is canceled by JetBlue will, at the passenger’s option, receive either a full refund or receive re-accommodation on the next available JetBlue flight at no additional charge or fare.

If JetBlue cancels a flight within 4 hours of scheduled departure and the cancellation is due to a "controllable irregularity," JetBlue will also issue the passenger a $50 credit good for future travel on JetBlue.

Cancellations Beyond Airline Control

JetBlue waives fees for changes made to flights that were canceled based on impending storms.

Delays

If a passenger’s flight is delayed due to a “controllable irregularity,” the passenger is entitled to a compensation good for future travel on JetBlue. If the delay time is 1:30-1:59 hours, the passenger will receive a $25 credit. If the delay time is 2-2:59 hours, the passenger will receive a $50 credit. If the delay time is 3-3:59 hours, the passenger will receive a $75 credit. If the delay time is 4-4:59 hours, the passenger will receive a $100 credit. If the delay time is 5-5:59 hours, the passenger will receive a $125 credit. If the delay time is 6 or more hours, the passenger will receive a $200 credit.

JetBlue will provide free movies on flights that are greater than 2 hours in duration for a passenger whose flight is delayed more than 3 hours after scheduled departure.

JetBlue does not waive fees based on uncontrollable irregularities. Fees will be incurred for changes made to the passenger’s flight.

Onboard Ground Delays

Passengers who experience an onboard ground delay on departure are entitled to compensation good for future travel on JetBlue. If the delay time is 3-3:59 hours, the passenger will receive a $50 credit. If the delay time is 4-4:59 hours, the passenger will receive a $125 credit. If the delay time is 5 or more hours, the passenger will receive a $200 credit.

Passengers who experience an onboard ground delay on arrival are entitled to compensation good for future travel on JetBlue. If the delay time is 1-1:59 hours, the passenger will receive a $50 credit. If the delay time is 2-2:59 hours, the passenger will receive a $125 credit. If the delay time is 3 or more hours, the passenger will receive a $200 credit. JetBlue will provide passengers experiencing an onboard ground delay with 36 or more channels of DIRECTV, food and drink, access to clean bathrooms, and, as necessary, medical treatment. JetBlue will not permit the aircraft to remain on the tarmac for more than three hours unless it is required to do so for safety reasons.
