Trans-atlantic flights in economy class are never fun, but Virgin manages to make it a little more pleasant than some other carriers. Somehow I never feel quite as squished in their seats and I do like that the crew are more relaxed and laid back than some other airlines. Food is always pretty good. The check in process is very easy and painless both sides of the atlantic.

A pleasantly aggressive airline even when others stayed grounded due to snow / Heathrow closure. Good use of social media by customer service reps to communicate with passengers. Nice attention on the littlest fliers, who enjoyed Virgin backpacks filled with goodies. We always enjoy the campy flight attendants. Food actually quite decent though we would have preferred a more substantial end-of-flight "snack."

I had never flown Virgin Atlantic to the UK before so I decided to give it a try for the Christmas Holidays. The flight was fine, neither good nor bad. I did like the entertainment facilities on the outbound flight to the UK. You could select when to start your own movie or show whereas the inbound flight it was on a relay so you could not say when it started.
A HUGE drawback for me was that Virgin Atlantic only allows economy class passengers 13 lbs of carry on luggage whereas economy plus (aka Business) and First classes got nearly 3 times that allowance. My carry on suitcase empty weights 10lbs.
I was concerned that my Christmas gifts would disappear from my baggage if I put it through cargo so I used a sports bag that did not have wheels. However, you really need a bag with wheels because going through passport control there are always lines both directions and I was constantly lifting my bag moving it a few inches and putting it back down. Very annoying. For the carry-on baggage restriction alone, I would not fly VA again because you don't want breakables, including hard plastic going through cargo. Cargo staff are very rough on luggage.

"Twas the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and all throught the flight not a creature was stirring because not a seat was empty. The flight attendants were stressed and short tempered it's true, but the passengers were often rude and impatient,too. The food was inedible, but the flght was on time so all things considered I would say it was just fine.

As good as it can be expected for 8 hours. I have been going back & forth to UK once or twice a year since 1975. Nothing has changed except I now have to pay for a window seat. However, the fare has come down somewhat. So I have no real complaints.
The food was good enough & crew were nice to me.

It could have been worse. On-line check-in made life a lot easier. Seats were awful but that's what airline flight seems to be all about. The in-flight service was disorganized going out but very good coming back (on the outgoing flight my seat mate got his meal twenty minutes before I got mine--I think he found my drooling distracting.) Coming back, heathrow didn't post the gate until a short time before departure. I guess it's a securiy measure. Since I like to know exactly where I need to be this made me a big antsy. Speaking of antsy, there's no bathroom in the gate's waiting area.
I should add that Virgin Atlantic uses teensy-tiny row numbers (14-pt type, I think) so when the lights were out I had a hard time finding my seat.

Cheap, not very comfortable. Meal service haphazard but it got there on time and ahead of time on the return trip and that's about all one can say.

After the overnight flight from Dulles to Heathrow (economy), I decided to stay state-side or travel by ocean liner next time. Seats are small & not comfortable for sleeping. Meal service was fine- but I'm a vegetarian & special meals get served first. Seat companions waited much longer. Check-in & bag drop, easy. Going back, less discomfort as I was not trying to sleep. Pillow was dirty as were the magazines in the pocket (not magazines- there shopping catalog & "entertainment" info). Seat-back screen stopped working & re-booted itself after about 30 minutes. Very large selection of movies, music, etc.

“UNITED NEW SEATING CONFIGURATION ON 777”

The business seats on new 777 configuration are lay flat. Very worth of the price as it is just as comfortable as First class. Very padded and relaxing, slept like a baby! The features are easy to use and the screens were huge. You can choose from a multitude of movies, TV shows, games and music. The menu also enables you to use your Ipod and view any of your content. There are ports for AC power, Airplane power connections and USB.
The United issue headphones are comfortable but still using a mono signal for their audio, so good to bring your own headphones along so you can hear everything in stereo.
The blankets were fabulous, like a quilted comforter. The pillows were average but suitable.
I was not happy with the configuration, 2-4-2, but it is acceptable. The 2 people in the middle have to step over the aisle side folks to depart from their seat and can be a struggle for anyone with short legs. It is neat with the front and back configuration. Reminds me of my days flying military aircraft.
One of the flight attendants had a bit of an attitude, I can only assume that he was upset that he was in the service industry.
I am optimistic that United will continue their modifications on these 777's and I will get another chance to sleep good on my journeys.

The flight attendents were very pleasant and curtious. The food was descent, and temp of the cabin was comfortable. - AND they gave all passengers a goodie bag - FREE!
By far the best experience I've ever had flying!
