Heading to Clemson SC for son's 21st birthday party (which we were throwing). 12:45 flight. Delayed, no pilot. Delayed till 2PM, 2nd pilot flying in. Canceled, pilot timed out. Rebooked on 5:45 flight to GSP. We asked, what about getting us to Charlotte, or Atlanta or Colombia SC? No, this will get you there faster. Get your seats at the gate. Text alert from United, you are confirmed on 5:45 flight. Email... same message. Gate agent," we are calling other flights, come back closer to flight time." We finally go back at 5PM, she tells us they are overbooked and have no seats for us. They make one offer to the crowd to give up seats... $400. No one takes it. We are plum out of luck, will fly us out the next morning and give us the $400. Confirmed seat means NOTHING. We were never told it was oversold. People behind us in line got on the plane. We had them rebook us on USAir to Charlotte at 7:45, got to Clemson at midnight, missed the party. BEWARE of "United "Confirmed" but no seat assignment.
