“NO service for cancelled flight”

On Jan. 13, 2012 US Airways cancelled two flights from Washington National: one to Rochester NY and one to Phoenix AZ. US Airways agents correctly directed passengers from those flights to the US Airways "Special Services" desk for rebooking. However, US Airways failed to staff that desk between 1:30 and 3:00 pm: the line of approximately 60 or so displaced passengers at the desk did not move for 90 minutes. A US Airways employee told me that the supervisor for the "Special Services" desk could not be reached by radio, and that they did not know where the supervisor was. Take home point: avoid US Airways - they cannot be counted upon to get you home despite the implied contract in their ticket.

It seems ridiculous to not be able to get a decent fare on a direct flight from DC to the Rochester-Buffalo area. I'll be taking the train the next time b/c the midwest connections and the long layover in New York (JFK) on the way back just wasn't worth it.
