I flew to Beijing between the 2008 Summer Olympics and the Para-lympics to meet up with my tour group. Every member of the crew I spoke with had no problem with English, and I found out that most were fluent in other western languages plus a few Asian, also. Very good service and what I remember the most is the push-back was exactly on time. I flew from Shanghai connecting through Beijing and our tour host/guide was there to assist, but might have been more of a hinderance: checking in went smoothly and my bags went right through, as expected. The return trip was just like the outbound; personal entertainment displays, excellent food (asian-based) and the cabin crew went through serveral times with snacks/drinks. It made me think this is the way air travel was like in North America, a couple of decades ago!
