I would urge folks to buy travel insurance as I wished I had when I learned that I could have purcased a flight change for the usual $100... instead of the additional cost of the difference of the return ticket. Airlines no longer offer bereavement discounts (meaning you can no longer fly to a relative's funeral) and I had no idea that I would be staying longer to attend my brother's. My trip ended up costing me twice what I originally paid because I had to extend the return time... even though the flight each way was not full.
I was assured if I had purchased insurance this would have only cost me the extra fee to exchange plus the minimal cost of the insurance. That would have been nice to know beforehand.

I flew on an Airbus jet--overhead compartments are tiny compared to the Lazy B jets. Had a red-eye--didn't need the cart twice during the flight. Easy flights.
