It was great to be on a flight that left on time, and arrived on time. I was able to get a great exit row seat at no charge, and there was an empty middle seat, so there was lots of room to stretch. Non-stop cross country is the way to go. Too bad Virgin has begun charging for checked bags (even the 1st), and $8 for an inflight movie? It was free in March 2010. What's up with that?

Online check-in was simple and we only had carry-on bags so that part of our flight plans went smoothly. Seat comfort was average. As usual, legroom is limited and the seat does not recline back far enough. The main problem, which has happened to us before on past United flights, was that right after we were all boarded on the plane, the mechanics had an issue with too much hydraulic fluid and we were told by the pilot that it would only take about 5-10 minutes. We waited for approximately 20-25 minutes then United could not find somone to sign off the mechanics' work to allow us to fly. The plane did not leave the gate until an hour after its scheduled takeoff time. It is good that the airline makes sure everything is running properly before takeoff but since it was the first flight of the day, would that all not have been taken care of BEFORE the passengers were let on the plane?!

horrible service, which is typical of most major conventional airlines in the U.S. also, the lax to iad leg is too long to keep the kids occupied.

Leg room and seat width are getting to be ridiculous. Don't know how tall men can travel in economy class for any length of time. Dislike United's policy of trying to sell you the front section of economy for 5 inches of extra legroom. The airlines are nickel and diming the public with this and pay to check in baggage.

Sat on the runway for an hour and a half before take off. Ugh! Fees charged now for even pillows/blankets.

The flight I recently took from SFO to IAD was well executed except for the fact that I could not print boarding passes because they were purchased though a second party.

If your flying with your kids it is not worth sitting in the last row of seats very uncomfortable. You have to pay for luggage and nothing other then non alcoholic drinks is free. The one nice thing was flying to DC non stop from SFO.
