“Comfortable flights but what's up with overbooking notifications”
Flight from San Francisco to Minneapolis
- Round Trip
- Number of Stops:
- No stops
- Date of Flight:
- July 2010
- Seat Class:
This flight was better than I expected. The seating was roomy in economy and we had a very smooth flight.
Only annoyance was that I got to the airport for my return flight very early (went with a friend leaving on an earlier flight) and was notified when I got my boarding pass that the flight was overbooked and they might need people willing to be bumped.
However, when I tried to get details, I was passed from the front line agents to one gate agent to a service desk agent, all of whom told me that they couldn't do anything until about 1 hour before the flight. This was not much help, since many of the other Delta flights to SFO with open seats were leaving BEFORE my scheduled flight. When it was finally an hour before my flight, the agent said they were no longer overbooked. So why even bother giving me the notification on check in when no one could do anything about it (e.g. book me on an earlier flight and compensate me) and the status of the flight changed long before it was scheduled to depart.
Just seems like unnecessary information to feed passengers. Better to leave it to an announcement at the gate.
