“Another Fee?”

I recently bought a roundtrip ticket SFO-LAX-SFO online for 179.60 (taxes & fees included) on United to attend a noontime meeting in Los Angeles, returning in the evening of the same day. This fare was the same as other carriers were offering that day but I chose United since I am a Mileage Plus member. When my meeting ended earlier than expected, I went to LAX to get on an earlier return flight. After checking my e-ticket, I was told that it would cost $50 to be put on standby, since my ticket was a discounted one; that all online purchased tickets were discounted and that I would have to have a full-fare ticket, purchased at United, costing some $300 more, to avoid such a charge. This is a new one on me: that “all on-line tickets are discounted”, even when they are the published fare charged by United and competing carriers, and that there is a “stand-by” charge. Is this another new airline fee, or just a United extortion?

Virgin did a pretty good job in creating a enjoyable environment by using blue cabin light. The seats are leather and hard plastic back gave you the clean feel. However, there seems to be not enough of overhead bin space. They really need to enforce the carry-on size limit.

“Inconsistent service & dumb boarding policy”

Great service LAX to SFO. SFO to LAX different. Rude careless gate agent on return. Made passengers with rollaboards board last. Those with carryons, same size as rollaboards boarded first. Dumb policy. When it was called to gate agents attention, she said it eased the boarding process. When at last I boarded, the bin over my seat was full, and the flight attendant was unconcerned and didn't lift a finger to help this old lady find space or lift my bag.

Flying Virgin America is like walking into a dance club- cool blue lights, cute flight attendants. And the interactive screen is very cool in allowing you to pre-order drinks and food, and keep yourself entertained for the flight.

...unless you are sure you won't have access to the Internet 24 hours ahead of time and/or will bet getting to the airport in the nick of time. If checkin online and get an A or B boarding pass, there's no need for the Earlybird thing they push

We flew close enough to the coast that there was plenty to look at out the window. The flight was smooth and short, which worked for me.
