We live in a rural area of Oregon, which requires considerable driving time for us to fly anywhere. We decided to go ahead and make the 7 hour San Francisco drive, catching a direct route to London. We were delighted with our first Virgin Atlantic experience. Check in excellentat the airport, altho the online unit would not let us check in, perhaps because we had requested wheelchair assistance for my husband. This meant we had to spend way too long calling in to verify that we were coming. Definitely let them know you are coming or they will give your seat to someone else! Our flight crew was top notch, showering us with attention, drinks, and actual food during the whole trip! Nice to watch free first rate movies of our own selection, restrooms remained clean, and there were plenty. We paid 60 pounds for a slight upgrade on the way home, and the extra space was definitely worth it. Again we experienced excellent service, oh, and the first check in bag was free...very nice in these days. We were new to the Heathrow scene, which captures you in the shoppinp area until just a few minutes before you board. This can be a bit difficult for a wheelchair access. Loved Virgin! We will take the extra trouble to fly with them again.

I selected Virgin Atlantic because I had flown Virgin America and had loved it. I thought it would be the same level of comfort and service. Boy, was I wrong!! Virgin Atlantic is nothing like Virgin America! On Virgin Atlantic, I felt like I was in a sardine can. The seats were the closest together of any flight I can remember with the exception one. It was difficult to be comfortable when awake but worse when one wanted to sleep (it was a 10-hour overnight flight). Plus, the stewardesses were the most unfriendly I have ever encountered. I would NEVER take this flight again!

I checked in online for my flight yet there was no saving grace from the massive, 45 minute line waiting for me as I arrived at SFO. If you check-in online, surely there should be a perk or two? The gate was chaotic as they changed the aircraft at the last minute so one of the attendants was calling half of the names of all the passengers to line up at the desk to check if their seat had been changed....a very stressful and confusing situation as no one knew WHY we were lining up AS it was happening, only afterwards....AND the man reading out the names could barely speak in a clear English accent and was going super fast! Chaos! Finally board the aircraft and find out that drinks in economy are now $6 (they aren't on BA and Virgin Atlantic as I do this flight all the time....they are free!)...AND to top it off, the screen for the TV was the tiniest one I've ever seen on an aircraft and it was not "On Demand" so you basically cannot control your in-cabin entertainment (like you can on BA and VIRGIN!)....there were also only 5 films to choose from (I guess I'm just used to a few more, and by a few I mean like 50). The stinginess of this airline was very apparent! The cherry on the sundae is that they didn't even provide that sweet little trans-Atlantic overnight kit with socks, an eye mask, and a mini toothbrush to make your flight a tad bit more comfortable. Service wasn't standout...the only saving grace is that we had an open seat right next to us, to some extra arm room. Otherwise, I would have rather coughed up $150 more (on top of the $1265) and traveled with Virgin Atlantic. I will do so next time!

“No A/C on the way over made for a miserable flight. Also our light switch operated the lights in the row ahead of us and vice-versa. Coming back was ok. Aisle seats are the only way to fly.”

Price was good. Wouldn't fly BA again. Didn't like the way gates are assigned at Heathrow not knowing until the last minute.

My husband and I had splendid service on our 10-hour flight: cheerful, humorous, efficient, helpful, concerned. It has been years since we had such uniformly pleasant service on an airplane. Food was palatable and wine better than usual. (On the other hand, the check-in for business class was abysmal. The agent was chatting with her colleagues and utterly uninterested in re-seating us together; she was clueless when we told her how to do it--she had to find another agent to help her.)

We left on time and had a 55 mph tailwind so landed at Heathrow 1 hr early. The landing was very smooth. On the return trip, we left on schedule and again the landing was very smooth, you did not know for sure you were on the ground. Don't know if all 777 are like that or because of an excellent pilot.

Virgin's fares were the lowest, but their regular economy seating is rough for a long flight, and the baggage allowance is low. But, you can upgrade your seat to one with more leg room and you can pay for extra bags. It's up to the individual to spend on what's important to them. I would fly on Virgin Atlantic again.

My only complaint is about seat assignment. I was not able to chose my seat on the outbound flight until 24 hours before the flight and only online, they hold back aisle and window and charge extra. At that time I was able to choose seats for the return flight but when we checked in we didn't get those seats and didn't even have seats together.

We enjoyed a nice on time nonstop flight to LHR on 5/3/10. The plane had been upgraded to new sleeper seats in business on this 777. Service was good and meals mediocre for business class. Crew was friendly and helpful. Same applied on return fight to SFO on 5/24/10. United was very good in helping my wife get on and off in a whell chair.

This was a special trip for us. The seats were very roomy and actually lay flat (they make up the bed for you). Crew were delightful and professional. You get menus and wine lists, travel goody bag, and even pjs!! The crew on our return flight were the best!!! They were not only pleasant but truly enjoyable to talk to. We had a great time. I love British Airways!

The seats, the seats-for business they need to upgrade the seats. A bit more cleaning would be good. The cabin staff was less attentive than they should be. BUT the food and wines were quite good
