Flight from LA was 1 hour late, thus we were late 1hour+ in leaving...no reason, etc.

Also, they load by zones, but should load rear to front, else everyone is gumming up the aisles putting awy their too big "carry ons" and deciding if the should sit or chat with friends six aisles back. I know tests show it makes no difference, but I think that is all BS!

United has really improved theor domestic First Class service level and food. That said, the legroom on a domestic configured 767 is terrible and not competitive. The legroom seemed to be abotu the same as economy.

I used British Airways miles for this flight, which was originally non-stop SFO-HNL. However, due to a mechanical problem the flight was canceled. Because I was using BA miles, there was no flexibility from AA to rebook my flight, except on other AA flights. (In other words, they might have accommodated me on another airline with nonstop service. AA had only that one nonstop flight from SFO to HNL). Anyway, it was a great deal with the miles, so I guess this was a drawback. I was rerouted via LAX, and arrived in HNL 8 hours later than my original reservation would have had me there.

The thing that stood out was that I hadn't flown AA in a few years, and my experience on these two flights was that the cabin interiors were pretty dowdy, and the inflight entertainment is dated and not up to par. Think small tv monitors up on the ceiling every few feet above the center aisle (757 aircraft). Anyway, I guess we've been spoiled by newer systems with seatback video screens and channel selection choices.

The buy on board snacks were also not great. I realized that when I bought a similar cheese and crackers snack on the flight home on United. The AA version was a couple of crackers and a processed cheese spread in a small container. The UA version (though a little more expensive) was much more substantial and came with wedges of real actual cheese.

The crews at the gate in SFO and on the two flights were efficient but cool and disinterested. However, the first class flight attendant who handled the door right in front of me (I was in the first row of economy) was highly professional. She spotted a carry on bag on the floor during the takeoff roll and did not hesitate to get up and grab it and stow it right away. I'll take professional, safe, and efficient over bubbly and artificially friendly any time.

Bottom line, I was very happy to be on United on my flight home. The aircraft interior (777), and snacks and just overall atmosphere felt much fresher and cleaner than my AA experience. That will have to have a review on its own.

For a short stay at Oahu, our schedule was great. Left SFO at 9am and arrived in Honolulu before noon, giving us the rest of the day to soak up the Waikiki scene.

Our 9 p.m. departure was 4 days later, which allowed another morning & afternoon of leisure without having to stay an additional hotel night.

It's always tough to take a long flight in economy, but a screaming flight attendant certainly doesn't help. Checking in is easy and fast, and delays aren't the company's fault, but generally unpleasant staff on board are certainly something that can be fixed. Overall, I'm always happy to fly, and none of this deters me from the company or from flying at all, but it just wasn't the easiest travel experience.

Upon arriving early for 9:15 am flight, it was suddenly cancelled due to mechanical problems. Our only notice was that cancelled was indicated on the flight chart. No airline rep was telling us, apologizing, or giving us information on how to proceed. The airline had only one flight out to Honolulu

a day from this airport. My daughter got on her cell phone and we did get a trip out 5 hours later to Los Angeles, then to Maui, and arrived in Honolulu

in the late evening missing a day of our vacation. The airline gave no apologies. In our travels to different airports, we noticed American was always offering vouchers and the planes were crowded, indicating they oversell seats.

Go on another airline that has more than one flight a day to your destination!

Our flights were great! However, because our original flight from Denver to San Francisco was delayed, we missed our connection there. United required us to pay a $50/per person stand-by fee and then an additional $25/per person to guarantee seats on the next flight. (The fees were assessed because our original flight was not with United or one of its affiliates.) The gate agent did give us exit row seats, which made the flight that much more comfortable. But we sure would have preferred not to have paid $150 before even leaving the ground!

United squishs you like sardines. You can't go to the bathroom if the seat in front of you is pushed back, because the seats are soooo cramed together.

I only fly United to Maui/Honolulu, if I have to...ie price or direct to Maui. Otherwise, I opt to fly Hawaiian, which is comfortable, pleasant and for the same price, feeds you.

Oh well, I'll continue to fly United only if the price warrants it.

This must be one of those flights where the airline has intentionally padded the flight time. We've been on it twice in as many years and it didn't depart even close to on-time either occasion. Despite not departing on time we seem to arrive in Honolulu very close to the time promised.

Be aware that UA charges for meals on this flight - a light LITTLE breakfast for four (3 fruit & yogurt cups, 4 pre-fab boxes) ran a whopping US$42. Despite eating breakfast at our originating airport and purchasing the in-flight meals on the SFO - HNL leg we arrived in Honolulu very hungry!'

The day before the flight we discovered that the aircraft had been 'upgauged' from a 777 to an ancient 747. Not only were our seating arrangements thrown into disarray, but the outdated audio/video equipment on the 747 meant that the flight seemed exceptionally tedious, particularly for our 8-year-old who could not see the screens.

Next time we will bring more of our own entertainment and more of our own food, especially fresh fruit (just remember to eat every scrap of it before landing since Hawaii restricts entry). That will all mean a lot more hassle for us, but also much greater comfort.
