You know.. I really miss the old days, they days a little over 10 years ago when flying was fun. Now it just plain sucks and American is one of the absolute worst. You are so crammed into your seats that there no way to move at all. My seats wouldn't recline.. which is awesome for a 5 hour flight! The audio on my seat for in flight movies was busted and the over priced snacks sucked! You are are forced to break the bank for First Class to have any kind of humane experience on this airline. Ugh..
Funny how just about every one of the huge American carriers suck so badly compared to just about any foreign one. It's embarrassing!

This was my first flight ever with Alaska Air. I thought the seats were comfortable and the service was unbelievable! Really enjoyed my flight. Only negative comment was that the breakfast hot meal was horrible. I ended up throwing it away.

The in-flight service was good except for the trip back home where the flight attendant seems to be a bit odd. Flight was late leaving and the return flight was late leaving.

My wife and I booked a flight six months in advance to Maui from San Diego for February 2010. We paid $1,383 RT for economy class. We thought that was really high, but figured we could rebook if the cost went down. WRONG!! They charged us $200 per ticket to do so when the cost went down to under $500 per ticket. To add insult to injury, they would not credit our credit card but would only give us a voucher for the $120 we had left. Oh well, at least we could use the voucher towards the baggage fees. WRONG!! We were told we needed to mail the vouchers in three days prior to the flight in order to utilize these vouchers for baggage fees. So we ended up paying for the baggage fees on top of trashing the useless vouchers. We bought a timeshare recently, but for the next 35-40 years we won't be visiting Hawaii on Hawaiian Airlines as a result of this exceptionally poor experience. Maybe we have just been spoiled by Southwest's incredible service on the continental US.

I can't say enough good things about this route.
1) Check-in with Hawaiian in San Diego was a dream -- very helpful & friendly staff.
2) Free meal! What? Really, they still give out food. Ok, so the food was kinda ... bleh, but still!
3) No turbulence. Smooth sailing.
4) On board flight crew was fantastic -- but who wouldn't be happy wearing a Hawaiian shirt as part of your uniform?
5) HNL airport is a little confusing for a first-timer, but thumbs up to the outside atrium waiting area.
6) Yummy pineapple, orange, guava juice during flight from OGG to HNL.
7) Beautiful views of paradise during landing!!!
