Southwest allows passengers to choose their own seats (first come, first served), and I found a fairly comfortable place between two fellow passengers. But an obese man had seated himself in the bulkhead seat and the flight attendant asked him to trade places with person seated on the aisle next to me (he was too large to be seated near an emergency exit). As a result, his girth spilled onto my seat and I was squished into about a quarter of it (not a large space, considering plane seats are all ready small). He was affable and courteous, but he was so large his lap tray could not be used. I was unable to get past him to use the bathroom and had little room to move at all. Thank goodness the flight was short! I couldn't help feeling he should have purchased another seat, rather than taking his, plus most of mine. On the return flight, I sat in the bulkhead seats, had congenial, quiet neighbors, and slept for most of the flight. All in all, I think Southwest does a fine job and has good prices. I'll definitely choose them again. But I would like to be able to have access to my entire seat next time.

We boarded on time, left SLC on time, stopped in Boise for a short time, took off on time, arrived in Seattle early. The pilot and the staff were very funny and I totally enjoyed myself. This crew made flying fun!

“Canceled flight: Disorganized through eventually effective help”

GOOD: I volunteered to be bumped in exchange for future flight credit and they put me up in a nice hotel and provided more than enough meal vouchers. That part went very smoothly. BAD: My flight in the morning was canceled and the response was a bit disorganized. I got through security before I knew it was canceled and the only gate agent I could find completely blew me off with insufficient information TWICE. (Once she sent me to call Customer Service in Atlanta and then she sent me back out past security to get help at the front registration desk.) GOOD & BAD: Then I ended up visiting the reservation desk 3 different times and getting different useful things from each one, such as meal vouchers and finally the tip-off to sit standby at an earlier flight. I was able to get on the earlier flight, so THAT part was good, but it was just LUCKY that I ended up visiting the desk more than once. The first agent understood that I was desperate to get to my destination earlier than the flight she had booked me on, but she said that was the best she could do and didn't suggest sitting standby, which is kind-of lame.

Plane was not clean & bathroom stunk. An employee came in with a bucket of something & poured it in the toilet--I was seated very close to the bathroom & it was like being next to an outhouse. A passenger commented to the stewardess about the odor and she said it was better than it had been. Not much comfort when you are breathing that for a couple of hours. Mary Lou Worthy

Our checkin at the airport was as good as it can be in SLC since we check our bags THEN lug them over to the guys who load them on the conveyor belt. The return flight was much better. Check bags, they put them on conveyor and we are done. Way to go Southwest!!
