Hello, I had a terrible experience recently with Airtran. I was the last person to board the flight and when I got on the flight attendant hurried me along telling me in front of all the seated passengers that I was making them late because I had to stow my violin. Both flight attendants also said I could not carry on my violin which is very expensive and is my livelihood as I am a violinist. First of all, TSA regulations clearly state that musicians are allowed 1 carry-on and 1 personal item just like all other passengers AS WELL AS an instrument! I had one small backpack and NO personal item and the flight attendants still wouldn't let me bring the violin on. And in the process they proceeded to humiliate me in front of everyone saying I was causing a delay. They then told me to exit the aircraft as I would not be allowed to fly. I left and immediately burst into tears. A kind traffic controller came on the plane and said this was absurd and they must make room. After all, I PAID for my seat TOO! I am extremely upset and I was totally humiliated in front of the entire group of travelers. Violins are expensive, temperature and pressure sensitive and in fact, much smaller than many roller bags that are allowed on board. I will NOT be flying Airtran again unless there are appropriate apologies made and an understanding and compliance with TSA regulations. I will also warn my musician colleagues of your terrible service. The gate agent was very kind. I would appreciate a response.
