“My care-package cooler got ripped open!!!”

I went to visit family, I had a great time and was very happy that my parents put together a care package with different foods they made for my self.
I check the care-package cooler like every time I get one, but this time when I went to pick it up in the baggage claim, the Zipper of the cooler was ripped open and worst of all I was missing some of the food!!!! :@
I immediately contacted Southwest, they gave me a phone number I called, and I was told they are NOT responsible when the damage on my cooler is the " zipper " .. and also that unless it's clothing what got lost, they also can't do anything ...
Next time either I'll choose a better airline or drive ... honestly , it's not much about the cost of the food lost, but more about the sentimental value put into making all that for me ....
