PHL to PIT, short haul which we can never figure out if it is a drive or flight. The toss up continues, because when one finishes up the flight, you arrive more refreshed, but your wallet is a bit lighter with the time allotment the same for the trip.

Despite grounding us in DC for five hours due to mechanical failure, United made no amends for it. No re-routing, no compensation. For me, that meant canceling meetings, conference calls and other appointments.
To make matters worse, despite the enormous inconvenience, once on board the flight attendant refused to allow people to take empty rows because they were reserved for (non-existant) "premium" passengers.
And to add insult to injury, this was a 1-stop flight from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, which United routed through DC. Had I taken a train or driven, I would have arrived in Philadelphia 3 hours before the flight arrived.
Flying has gotten so horrible and tedious that this is the last thing passengers need. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad if airlines like United didn't cram planes to the hilt and charge for everything but soap on the planes.
What's next? Delaying planes due to mechanical failure and making passengers pay for the mechanic?
