Our 19 minute flight from Philly to JFK was fine. Small plane and had to check our bags plane-side and enter the plane from an outdoor staircase. The problem was in the 4 hour layover that turned into almost 7 hours because the engine was bad on our plane. I guess they made the mistake of announcing engine trouble and that maintenance was on the plane. About an hour later, they began to board the plane and within minutes, everyone was filing back off. We were scheduled to leave at 6:40 and didn't leave until well after 8. The flight was nice in that we had television screens with some entertainment options, but we were in the back and unable to sleep because the flight attendants were chatting noisily and trading off for naps the whole time.

Seat was just fine, but after the beverage was served and snacks, the flight attendants spent the rest of the 41/2 hours chatting to each other. Never checked to see if anyone wanted another beverage.

An hour delay in Philly for de-icing and two hour delay for de-icing in Cincinnati. Otherwise PERFECT. Smooth take off and landing at both airports. Think Delta is the best.

Between the no-frills approach airlines have taken in order to turn a profit, the decision to NOT check any bags so I could spend $100 on more fun things on vacation, the scrounging around for little teeny bottles into which I tried to squeeze my favorite hair gel and the non-favorite brands of other products I had to use because they come in teeny bottles and my having to throw away a really nice bottle of red wine because it was in a carry-on (totally sealed, of course), and the $30 I had to spend on airport lunches for two of us because no meals are served on the flight, and the everytime experience of being felt up by a TSA agent because I have a knee replacement (and a card to indicate same), the travel experience by air is not at all uplifting. It used to be.

The flight going out was delayed but coming home it was right on time. The add on fares are crazy, luggage, blankets, food, etc. All in all, I will always fly SW for their policy of no charge for bags, but needed these times and nonstop flights.

When we got to the Philadelphia airport at 5AM with 2 small children, we were forced to get in line to check-in because the Delta website had not been working the night before. I tried using the check-in kiosk at the airport while my wife and the kids sttod in line. I was unable to print the boarding passes there because their system went down about half way through the process. After standing in line for about 30-45 minutes we were told that if we did not have boarding passes that we needed to go to the other counter on the other side of the TSA at the far end of the terminal. Of course there were no signs that indicated this. So, we quickly hurried to the other end only to find a line that was twice as long as the previous one. We were now getting dangerously close to our departure time and I was able to convince a ticket agent to expedite our wait. After getting our boarding passes we hurried to security and waited in line only to find out that the ticket agent had failed to give us one of the boarding passes for the kids. So, I left the wife and kids at the security gate and ran all the way back to the ticket agent and got the boarding pass I needed. We made it to the gate just in time and were one of the last passengers to board. At the gate we learned that our seats (which we had reserved and picked when making the reservation) had been reassigned and that we were now not sitting together. Needless to say, I was a little frustrated at this point and as I explained to the stewardess that I wanted the seats we reserved, I got what turned out to be the closest thing to an apology I would receive when she said, "Yeah, you are right. We used to have problems when we were Northwest, but Delta sucks."

Southwest is a great value airline. They excel at boarding the plane quickly and efficiently, resulting in timely take-off. We had a slight delay on our layover flight but they quickly made up time by boarding the plane quickly. The staff is pleasant. They have added an option so you can pay $10 per person per flight to check in early. I used this option and think it was worth money--did not have to be at the computer exactly 24 hours in advance to get a good seat.

My two flights were on US Airways A321s, and both were fairly new.. Certainly in better condition than some aircraft I have flown, ie US Airways 737s! Crew were very friendly, and the flight deck left some information for me with the flight attendant... Thank you folks. Eastbound flight was great too! One big tip - the flight was full, so the gate agents were making appeals to check bags to your destination for no charge.. Much better than paying at the check in desk!!

I wish the seats were a little bigger and the landing wasn't very pleasant but my In-Flight service was great and I arrived at my destination safely and on-time.
