We were really worried about flying allegiant after we read so many bad reviews but we decided that for the price and the non stop flight, we would just try it out and see what happened. well it was totally great! Yeah, they charge for carry ons and snacks on the plane... but last i checked so did every other airline except southwest. i guess i could complain about not having a free soda or water, but seriously we only paid $115 (with all taxes and fees) for a round trip non stop ticket from KY to Orlando... I think I can handle the 1 hour and 45 minute flight time without a soda. Or if I really wanted a coke I guess I could have paid the $350 every other airline was charging and sipped my $235 coke happily. :)
Tips for using this airlines:
-Don't pay to pre-pick your seat or for the priority boarding... you don't need it!
-Make sure to get to the airport at least 1.5 hours before your flight... 2 hours is really best. this is bc allegiant closes their ticket counters 40 minutes before the flight... they say the computer locks them out and they have no control over it.. who knows if that's true or not, but the point is that you don't want to be caught half way through the line and not checked in at 45 minutes before your flight.
-Expect to pay for any snacks or drinks - it's a no frills airlines, know that before you book and you shouldn't be shocked!
-If you don't want to pay for checked baggage just bring a carry on - i read a ton of reviews that said they were making people check their small carry ons and maybe that happened to them, but not to us (they even handed out free tickets to check your carry on at no extra cost if you wanted!)
-be prepared for delays, just roll with it! if you have to be somewhere exactly 20 minutes after you land, don't use this airlines. i've heard they are notorious for being delayed. our flight to FL was on time, but our flight home was delayed about 1.5 hours. wasn't a big deal at all bc we knew it was a possibility.
in the end, we loved this airlines bc we did our research and knew what we were getting into - a no frills airlines that got us to where we wanted to go quickly and VERY inexpensively!
the moral of the story is that we will be using allegiant again for sure!
