Five minutes before our departure, the pilot announced we would have to deplane due to a visual inspection that was just concluded. "Something" was leaking and they needed to replace the part, which they did not have, so it would have to be flown in (from Timbuktu or Tampa, we were not told). As the passengers deplaned we were told that Delta was "assisting with re-booking all passengers across from gate 70-71(?)". Across from this gate was a bank of 8-10 telephones, but no delta agent in sight. As lines formed for the phones, it became clear that only some of the phones were operable. When I got through to a Delta agent (Gabby), our flight status had not been reported (as cancelled, delayed, late, nada), so they were unable to put us on alternate flights. Still no Delta agent in sight. I finally made it onto another flight, through Atlanta, landing at Chicago-Midway instead of O'Hare. I specifically asked if my checked luggage would be on my flight and was assured it would be. Was it on my flight? no! Did I receive it by the end of the day? no! Was anything missing from my luggage? Why, yes! Do they assume responsibility for theft? no! Lesson learned : I will never fly Delta Airlines again -- I cannot afford to!

People with lower boarding # were allowed on plane first and they were allowed to put more than one item in overhead bins - then there was no room left for later boarders' bags. Some people just do not care how their actions affect others.

Nothing particularly good or bad. Departed and arrived on time. Drinks, but no snacks. Boarding process was fairly smooth. Hate to pay baggage fee!

Check in was a breeze, security not an issue (go thru the frequent flyer line), my seat on leg 1 was in the middle of 2 "seasoned" flyers. It was another story about the kids behind us kicking our seats -- it's called manners, parents! On the return leg, I had the entire row to myself. And a flight attendant who actually seemed to like his job -- he smiled! The way air travel is supposed to be....

Pretty normal travel experience for today's traveler. Plane full to the max, tiny seats, but at least we left and arrived on time.
