I recently flew United to Australia for a week's visit to Sydney. The strange thing, about it, seemed to be the business of the "you cannot get anything to eat" on the cross-country leg-NY to LA-unless you have a credit/ debit card. To me, this is patent nonsense. If one has cash on a domestic flight, then money- of of any sort-seems to to be a solution to this excuse of partial service. What gives? From LAX to Sydney, I was loaded onto an elderly 747 flight for that part. If United is interested in being competitive, then the must really really upgrade their equipment. If the merger with the Continental is an example, then the line might consider the long range, fuel efficient aspects of what Continental has to offer.

Quantas gets high marks. For a 22 hour flight they made me and my son comfy. We stayed fed and hydrated and when we were concerned about making the connecting flight, they had someone at the airport in LAX waiting for their passengers to escort them to the plane, which should have left. We were also delayed in LA but really it was not a bad experience. We made the most of it and our flights there and back were excellent. Thumbs up to Quantas. I will definitely fly them again.
