the only transatalantic flight that night

after inquiries to airport and airline staff, and even the captain upon arrival in madrid, i could not learn why virtually ALL transatlantic flights were cancelled the night of the approaching blizzard. after all, it was behind us. when klm cancels a flight, something is wrong. however the delta crew dealt well with some irregularities such as an empty plane: anyone who wanted it could get a middle aisle to him/herself. delta food is, was , as always, distal of mediocre; homogneized wines of poor quality. however, without the delta team i would have been stranded in new york. hats off to a job well done.

7 hours sitting on a slab of concrete while my face was sandwiched between the chair in front of me and mine

Iberia needs to retire half of their fleet. the aircraft we flew in must have been more than 20 years old. the seat cushions were so flattened out it was like sitting on a slab of concrete for 7 hours. food was almost inedible and the flight had no movies or music. space and legroom between the seats was nonexistent, cramped and uncomfortable, i wouldn't subject my dog to those conditions. on the return connecting flight to Madrid, the plane was more than 2 hours late, then we were subjected to an extremely rude flight attendant. Since the first leg was late, in order to catch the 2nd half of the flight from Madrid to NYC, we had to RUN apx. 1.5 miles to an entirely different terminal, up and down stairs, then take a train, and then up and down stairs again. Hey at least i got my workout for the day, but an unfit older person would have potentially had a heart attack! Worst flight I've had in a very long time!!!

    Legroom is really getting scarce!

I'm an average-sized guy, but these trans-Atlantic flights have really skimped on the legroom. I now always book an aisle seat, so that I can get up and move around. By the time we reach our overseas destination(s), my butt is sore! Oh well, I'm realistic! Also, I flew FREE courtesy of my AA Miles. I'm sure the Mayflower wasn't any more comfortable. I can tolerate 8-10 hours of discomfort to reach my destination overseas. Just a bit more wiggle room would really help though.

We had read several negative reviews of Air Europa so we went with trepidation. We found the experience very positive. The planes were clean and staff attentive. Food was good. Only negative was not being able to choose seats. They were assigned at check in.
