My business class trip to Barcelona was everything it was supposed to be. The flight attendants were friendly, the seats were comfortable, the food was good, the wine selection susbstantial, the movie selection onboard was immpressive and most importantly, the flight was on time. On the return flight back to the U.S. 9 days later, the flight attendants not only remembered me, but 1 remembered where I had sat on the previous flight & another which wine I had been drinking on the flight.

After waiting in line to check in and get my boarding pass, I found out that my flight was delayed from 11:15pm Thursday, Dec. 23 to 6am Friday, Dec. 24th. No reason was given but I found out on the flight that the plane was grounded due to overuse. Even though I only had carry on bags they still asked me to weigh them and then wanted to check one of them! They provided a shuttle bus to take us to a nearby hotel. I waited on line to check in for about 40 minutes until we were advised that there were no more rooms and we had to take another shuttle to another hotel further away. At 3:30am we waited in the lobby of our hotel for the shuttle bus back to the airport but only a van was available that could only carry 6-7 persons at a time. A few of us called a cab to take us to the airport so we could check in and make our flight. When I arrived in Madrid, my connecting flight at 7:35pm was also delayed until 9pm and I didn't arrive in Barcelona until almost 10pm! By the time I got to my destination it was past midnight and my Christmas Eve plans had been ruined. Also my return flight was delayed for more than an hour.

I made the mistake of choosing these flights with my wallet instead of my brain. The RT flights on Air Europa were about $150 less than the other airlines so we went with them, contrary to the poor reviews I'd read online and received from friends who'd taken the airline before.

Our flights from NYC to MAD was delayed 2 1/2 hours because our plain was late getting to NYC. The planes themselves were what we expected, not ultra clean but not dirty to the point where we felt disgusted. The flight attendants were nice enough and the actual flight was fine. The entertainment selection stunk, but that was fine b/c the flight left at 11:30 pm EST so we slept.

Coming home we were worried we'd be delayed again and almost were for our BCN - MAD connection. Once we boarded and closed the doors we were informed we'd be delayed 2 hours on the plane b/c someone checked bags but didn't board the flight which means they'd have to remove the bags and cause us to miss our place in line to take off! I thought a riot was going to insue but about 10 minutes later they said it would only be 15 minutes now, not 2 hours. WOULDN'T YOU BE SURE IT WAS 2 HOURS BEFORE ANNOUNCING IT?

Sorry for the long response but please avoid this airline unless it's that much cheaper than the rest (for me that would have to be at least a $300 difference).
