I just returned from Australia on Delta's non-stop service. I had seat 7D on the first flight and 6D on the return. Delta's Business Elite international service rivals (surpasses) the international first class experiences I have had on other US carriers (American Airlines, Continental, United) and the attentiveness of the flight attendants was outstanding. I was more used to this level of service on Asian carriers like Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, and Thai. Nobody was impatient or rude in any way, even throughout the 14 hour flight.
The equipment was a relatively new 777 LR. Lavatories were very clean and constantly restocked with wet wipes, lotion, face cloths, and toothpicks. They were bright and always clean, and I thought the wood (or synthetic wood) floors were a nice touch.
The Business Elite seats are quite comfortable, even for someone as tall as I am (6' 3"). My only issues with the seat were that although there was a button for massage feature, it was not installed in the seats. The tray table is difficult to open or close unless the seat is almost fully upright. I like looking out the windows, and as all the Business Elite seats face towards the center of the plane, I had to crane my neck around to look through the window.
Food was above par for US based carriers, although the wine selection was limited. The wines were quite good, not exceptional, but only two whites and two reds were available. I guess I'm just used to a wider variety.
The flight attendants were quite attentive, and there was always someone walking the isles, discreetly replacing empty water bottles with full ones, offering snacks, and checking with passengers. The crew on my return flight was among the best I have ever experienced. They were friendly and very professional. Delta has really got a good product here, and I hope it continues to thrive.
