“Good service, questionable comfort”

I was very excited to try out their new (in 2008) seat design in coach, the kind where it reclines forward, with a fixed back. This eliminates having the person in front of you recline into your space. More and more airlines are adopting this design, but it is still the exception rather than the norm. I found the overall idea and function to be very positive. Unfortunately, I have never been very good at sleeping on airlines, and the seat was actually harder to sleep on than the older design. I actually need to see a chiropractor for the first time, for neck pain, after my return flight. This may just be something I did, but I am not sure. I have not used this seat design since then, but I am willing to give it another chance in the future, and it is far better for when you are awake.
As far as the airline, I know it is always ranked at the top, alongside Singapore, but I prefer Singapore slightly, with somewhat better service. The food was still more than adequate for coach airline food, and the service was very friendly. I would not hesitate to take either airline for any of Asia. I appreciated Cathay allowing a free stop-over in Hong Kong (something many airlines charge extra for), and we were able to stay in HK for 3 nights for no additional cost.

“Most Sleep I've Ever Gotten on a Long Flight”

I had the pleasure of stretching out on one of Singapore's ultimate Business Class seats. Even for a big fellow like me, the 30" width felt luxurious. Two comments I read before I flew from others' postings were that the seat can be hard to adjust to a comfortable sitting position when trying to partially recline and that, once converted to a bed, the surface is very hard. I found both to be true. However, after getting used to the very hard surface with almost no padding, I slept for hours, which was great,
Service was only average. The staff was polite and helpful but in the long stretch between meals (10-12 hours) they only appeared a few times and seemed much more interested in resting or talking amongst themselves.
However, the staff in the Business Class Lounge at SIN was absolutely incredible. They could not do enough for me and I was very impressed.
