Very good experience! Family of four flying from LAX to Rome. Air Berlin was much nicer experience than any American-owned airlines. Each of us had our own tv/movie/game screen and a given a nice little bag with socks, toothbrush, eye covers. Flight attendants were helpful (better than the US-owned airlines). I would recommend this airline - great experience for coach.

From LAX to FCO, took AA (companion partner) to LAX. From LAX to MAD to FCO was on Iberia. Home was all on Iberia, from FCO to MAD, then direct to LAX. AA was ... well, it is AA. Not good, but not really horrible either. Iberia from JFK to MAD to FCO was "average". Was a little disappointing that they had the old fashioned entertainment system, (e.g., small screens five or six rows in front of your seat - and dependent of what they are showing at the time). Home from FCO to MAD was pretty good, but from MAD to LAX was a total nightmare. Again, lousy entertainment system. They did show three or four full-length movies, but on an 11 hour flight, just how many movies can one watch without going stir crazy? The worst was legroom. With the seats fully upright, I have about one-inch leg room. That is if I don't have anything in the pocket of the seat back in front of me. However, certain people just don't care and insist of putting their seat to the fully-reclined position. I had to endure eleven hours of misery because my knees were up against the seat back. No amount of pushing against the seatback or asking the person to not recline so much did any good. It was pure hell . . . enough that I'll never fly Iberia again. Food was okay ... and plentiful. No complaints there. Stewardesses were all friendly and helpful. Missing are the little extras that I usually get on an international flight. Stuff like eye shades so one can sleep, a little tooth brush and paste, mints and handywipes, etc. Iberia didn't offer any of that. Maybe I'm spoiled by Air France. I'll always try to fly AF, if the opportunity presents itself. Iberia? Never again.

“Deceptive bicycle fee”

When I checked in for my trip at Los Angeles I asked the Swiss attendant how much I would have to pay to bring a bicycle. The agent told me that international flights have a two bag allowance and since I only had two bags, there would be no fee. When I went to the Rome airport to begin my homeward journey the Swiss attendant told me I would have to pay $200 for the bicycle to take it home. She also gave me the choice of leaving it at the airport to donate to charity. I contacted Swiss and told them of the mistake and how my choice of paying the bicycle fee was deceptively taken away. Swiss said they were sorry but they cannot change the policy. After contacting the State Consumer Protection Board of New York State I was told that although Swiss may have poor business practice, they did not break any laws. I WILL NEVER FLY SWISS AIR AGAIN AND URGE YOU NOT TOO AS WELL.

“I am personally boycotting this airline from now on.”

I guess i went in expecting too much from my other experiences flying overseas. I figured if it was an international flight that meant, free movies, free drinks and free food. Boy was i wrong. For my 9 hour flight until my first stop, i stared at a plain headrest (no tv and even no radio), incredibly cramped leg room, and I am only 5'6" if i was a 6'2" male i would not have made it. For 9 hours, they only gave drinks and sold crappy expensive food. I couldn't believe how low budget this airline was. When asked why they had no entertainment, they said they were no frills because the flights were so cheap so they were not making any money, i don't think charging $900 a ticket plus 2nd bag baggage fees is going to put them out of business anytime soon. Plus they charged a passenger $7 for a Budweiser, i almost fainted when i heard the price. On other airlines, i've even gotten free wine, but not happening with US Airways. Once you fly Virgin, i don't think you can go back. I will never fly this airline again, my flight was delayed for 4 hours in Philly so after such a horrible flight, i thought the 2nd part of the trip would be just as bad. From Philly to Italy, flight was better, except since planes are so old, my tv monitor didn't work for 3 hours. The only bright side was that i got fed at least. Overall, not ever going to put myself in such an unpleasant situation and next time i book a flight i will just pay extra and fly a better airline.

1st leg 737 ok then first time on 767 to Rome. Plane looked big enough when boarding but after several hours my senior citizen body was in crisis. The movie (on small screens spaced around the cabin),the food or the complimentary blanket&pillow couldn't help the discomfort the seat was able to generate from the base of my rear outward to every limb.I had been flying with a group and after arriving heard a lot of similar comments. After a wonderfull 15 day tour around europe we flew AA 777 non stop from London to LAX and had a much better comfort level. We don't fly long flights often but the 767 was the most uncomfortable plane to me.

“Would never fly this airline again”

The airline seating was one of the worst we have ever flown. My husband is a large man 6'2" and our two friends were over 6'4" and when the food tray was down it hit them in the stomach and there was no way to avoid being up against it. The food served was terrible and the trays were left for well over an hour after everyone had eaten. On the return flight the food was not even consumed as the taste, texture and trying to figure out what is was, was never accomplished. Again trays stayed so long we were all jocking around to get out to use the restroom while holding trays and trying to return them to the back where the flight attendents were having a good time and were not happy to be interupted to take the trays. I was not allowed to go around them to the other asile where I could use the restroom that was unoccupied, I was told to stay there and wait until one of the two were vacant even though the other side was unoccupied for quite some time. There was only drink service offered one time, then half the crew crawled into these side seats that reclined, pulled the drapes, and were not seen again until we landed. We were held up for a long time in Newark waiting for a new plane to be sent from Rome so no one was happy on the outbound flight, but coming back home the flight crew was rude and the service was terrible. We had 8 other couples on various airlines and none of the other passengers on those airlines had crews and service like the 4 of us had on Alitalia. I told our travel agent we would never use that airline again. I had flown twice before on this airline and each time it seems to have gotten worse.
