    Ruder than US domestic staff

so many people say nice things about Cathay, but EVERY time I fly them I feel abused and ignored. On board the aircraft, I get ignored and ordered about. The economy seats look good but are actually pretty hard though the fact that the seat in front doesn't get in your face is ok. The ground staff are absolutely rude. I thought it might be due to a curtness of Hong Kong people in general but I'm treated better in the city. China Air is more polite and Singapore Air outshines them in every respect. Cathay prides themselves on being a premium airline but they're not. When shopping price I'm using the Taiwan-based airlines and when I want extra comfort and deluxe treatment I'll fly Singapore Air.

This route requires a 8-12 hour layover in Seoul, which is good or bad, depending on your needs. Fortunately, even coach passengers are offered a choice of a layover hotel (outside of the airport), or a city tour of Seoul, to help the layover pass. You only get this perk on 1 of the legs (either going to Asia, or going back to USA), and you need to call the airline in advance to reserve it, but it is free and well worth it. The hotel offered a free lunch as well. I did my own city tour on the metro, and took advantage of the hotel on the return leg. The airline staff is very friendly, and the amenities are comparable with any other high quality airline (which excludes the cut-rate USA based airlines). The Korean food offered was very good, as well, with the meal out of LA even better than the meal out of Seoul (LA has the largest Korean population outside of Korea, so this is not too surprising). Never flown Korean Airlines, but I would not hesitate to recommend Asiana, for Seoul or for any of Asia.

Food wasn't bad on the way to Bangkok but not very good on the return flight. Staff were pleasant. Other passengers not respectful on return flight (trying to get into overhead bin during take-off & decent & not following basic rules making it a challenge for the staff. Back rows didn't have their own overhead bins & had to store their carry-on at least 3 rows away which caused problems with everyone not being able to use the area closest to them. Flight was late leaving Bangkok & only had a short layover to start with so everyone was rushed to get to their next gate. No systematic approach to the boarding process & pretty much a free-for-all in Asia. Limited movie selection. Uncomfortable seats made this long flight seem even longer.

The service was better than the domestic airlines. The individual consoles lets you watch a variety of new releases (not just family movies) and video games. The food was better than most domestic airlines (US airlines).

The return flight was not as nice. The crew was not very friendly and service was poor.

As always the airline departure and arrival were on time and luggage was delivered intact and in good condition. The seats could use a little more padding on the rear as it is a very long trip and by the time you arrive your butt is sore. The overall service was good but the food selection could be improved. I understand the problems of food service for such a long flight.

I have more difficulty with you website and submitting the reply to your survey.

I found this airline to be very accomodating. Would rate right up there with Thai and Singapore. Flown them several times and service always excellent. There are always a few bad apples on a flight but they are trained to deal with it. I think people are getting tired of "the customer is always right" and running over the employee. Would not happen if before given a passport, you had to take training on how to behave in a foreign country. This bad behaviour is one of the prime reasons the rest of the world hates us.

The experience was so bad that I will never fly with them again. The service was poor and the majority of the personnel had an attitude. They continually told people from our group to sit down when they tried to stretch their legs. They rarely provided beverage service and limited beer consumption to 1 every few hours. When people complained they would send back a supervisor who would merely furnish a comment card without remeding the poor service. The personnel would gossipand read magazines in the galley rather than attending to the needs of the passengers.Never again after this experience.
