Outbound leg was great, efficient, good onboard service. Return leg was tolerable. What impaired the return leg from being as equally good as the outbound was the woman (apparently) in charge of the departure gate. ATTITUDE, whew! With three overhead storage bins being approximately each 1/3rd full, she decides that the last boarding passengers all need to check their carryons. When discovering three open bins (after having already been forced to gate check carryons)and with the passengers in the last seating group still boarding (I was in the last group), I approached her and asked why she forced the remainder of us to gate check our bags when there was sufficient space for the bags of the remaining passengers. I asked her if our gate checked bags were going to be brought up to the jet way so we didn't have to wait through all of baggage claim? Her response - she appeared to COMPLETELY IGNORE me and my question. She would not look at me, would not acknowledge that I was even speaking to her. Standing there waiting for some acknowledgement or response to my question, I asked her what her response was to my question, she said, "I have a flight to get out!" She then turned away and tried to look as though she was busy. The pilot of the flight who was greeting boarding passengers and the flight attendants were equally puzzled when asked why we would be forced to check bags when sufficient space existed in the overhead. The plane did not "push back" for another 12 minutes.
The flight attendants during the flight were very good.
As a result of this episode and having be delayed and to unnecessarily wait for the whole baggage claim process, I would give the whole flight a C-.
